How about packing Haas on Wed v. EWU?

Disclaimer -- I can't make it because I am in Hawaii. I would go if I could.

I say give the student-athletes one game where there is really good crowd support. This could be our only win for a while. If we win, this game matters very little whether Fox gets retained or not. But this is purely for our players and giving them at least one game where the place is fairly packed and has energy.

Who's going?

I am on the fence about going but I have a question to ask the fans here

My friends & I were thinking of pulling a stunt where we sneak in papers with the Firefox logo on them and hand them out to everyone in the student section. Good idea or disrespectful? Gimme your honest opinions

I'm not a fan of that but that's just my opinion. We can do it here and on social media, and believe me it gets back to the AD. But doing it kind of in your face in front of his players, coaches, family and friends, is not my cup of tea. But that's just me, and I wouldn't judge lol.

What I would love to see is to turn Haas into a party on Wednesday with the student section roaring like UCLA or AZ were in town and we were about to upset them. This is our one chance at something good happening. Why waste an opportunity to have some fun in an otherwise horrific season?

I suggest finding out who the best player on EWU is, contact him on social media as a girl named Victoria who wants to hook up with him after the game and get his phone number. Then when he goes to the freethrow line, hold up his phone number and yell "Victoria says Hi"

I have to go with KAB on this one. If Fox is going to get fired, he is going to get fired. We don't need to personally humiliate the guy. I know that isn't your intent at all, but I'm pretty sure that Knowlton knows that the fans want the Ofer coach fired, and I hate to tell you this lesson that I've learned over the years. The AD doesn't care what the students think. If the richest alum loves Mark Fox, Fox ye shall get.

Hahaha if you figure out the physics behind it then please don't waste it on me- go back and stop the hire of Wyking/Fox. Or maybe even further back and stop Knowlton's hire. Or maybe even further back. (Or forget Cal entirely and go back to invest in Apple while Steve was still in his garage)

Hey that's a pretty interesting thread idea- if we could go back in time and change one decision that Cal made in order to stop all of the unfortunate mistakes, what would we change?

I think it's a great idea. Look how much publicity those couple students received for wearing paper bags. The more the public sees about what this administration has done to Cal basketball the better imo. Right now, I'm pretty sure everyone just thinks Cal sucks and no one cares. Well this shows that actually there are people that care.

I'd say on this forum that's expressing an opinion but in public in front of Fox it's disrespectful.

Great idea. This is historically awful and nothing is changing. Private pressure has done nothing. Need to see if public pressure can work instead.

Sounds like you want me to go back and kill baby Knowlton

Too many decisions, but...

I'll have to leave the details on this one to people who are even more old timers than I am, but in 1959 we went to the Rose Bowl and won the NCAA Championship and I believe we followed that up with 2nd place in the 1960 tourney. Than Pete Newell retired to become our Athletic Director. My understanding is it was right in that time period that Cal decided it wasn't going to join in the high stakes game that was modern football and basketball. If you look at most of the truly top programs, that was the era where they established themselves and we were definitely in a position to do so if we wanted to. So that would be the one I would look at.

There was a time (way before me) when the Big Game was the biggest sporting event of the year in Northern California. We even have our own tragedy where the roof of a building next to the stadium in SF where the game was being played collapsed under the weight of the fans trying to watch the game.

Absolutely do it. I'd prefer shirts, but printouts is much easier. If they give you any trouble feign ignorance and say you're trying to draw attention to the impending removal of adblocking from all chromium-based browsers to encourage people to use Firefox instead.

F these guys. Fox has no shame, he won't be embarrassed. If he is, GOOD, he should be.

I'm in the other camp.

First of all, Knowlton is such a colossal jackass that one full house could convince him Fox is just fine, needs more time, the fans are coming around, etc. I'm not joking. We need gameS where the place is completely 100% empty. Full boycott.

As for the signs…you know what is disrespectful? Your head coach saying things like "I knew what I was signing up for when I came here" then running off all the best talent before losing at a historic level. **** him. Another thing that's disrespectful is Knowlton with his excuses, refusal to hold Fox accountable, gratuitous extension granted to Fox, etc. Screw them both. They are not worthy of our respect. I say bring the signs. Shine the light on this pathetic crap.

And preemptively I'll offer this is not disrespectful to the players. They have never been 0-9 before, they have to know. This is supporting the players by saying they deserve real coaching and administrative leadership.

What we should do is sell out the game at Maples on January 28th and all wear the shirts. I prefer the white version for visibility. Cal website says it will be on ESPN but Stanford website says ESPN2 or U. At any rate, one of our few national ESPN games.

How about just wear Montana, Portland or Missouri shirts at the game? That's right. Knowlton wouldn't get it.

Ok I've been advised by a couple people who I deeply respect that it's not the right thing to do and would be disrespectful; I am going to use this as redirection and do something much more fun at the expense of Stanford.

I will say that I do not respect Fox. To continually blame the lack of effort or preparedness of players, to state that he "knew what [he] was signing up for" 4 years into his tenure after going out to the worst start for a major conference team in 40 years, to so incapably run a program that any semblance of moderate talent transfers, to be so bad at connecting with players that Devin punches an exit sign in the tunnel and screams on the court and in the locker room, to have a former Cal basketball legend tell me he's a "f---ing dumb-ss" outside a Haas bathroom, to refuse to change up the staff after years of abysmal failure- he has absolutely none of my respect and I wish to see him gone whenever the funds are available. He is a pathetically bad HC and is going to produce the most losses for a major conference team in history, that is all but certain.

But again, from people I have a lot of respect for here, I've been told that the Firefox stunt isn't right. I'll do something better at the expense of Stanford. Thanks for the input everyone, I seriously appreciate it and there's a reason I asked first here; I value the opinion of you guys who are wiser (and probably more mature) than I

Maybe Wednesday is a positive "Support the Players" night. If we don't win then (or even if we do), start slipping in the Firefox logos the next game. Just me, but I like the slightly-more-subtle Firefox caps and t-shirts, as opposed to signs, though I'm not really opposed to the signs.

I know we went over this here, the night of the U$C game, but I absolutely hate the bags-over-the-heads. Says that you're ashamed of Cal, ashamed to be a Cal fan rooting on the team, ashamed of yourself. Instead, we just want a coach that will build and coach up a better team! (I know that is an insignificant nuance to some, but not to me.) If you're ashamed to do something, just don't do it (as opposed to doing it, but with a bag over your head).

I agree regarding the Firefox posters - might embarrass the players. But T-shirts have a nice ring:
  • Shows a little more commitment than a poster - but pretty easy/cheap to order online
  • If you can get say 50 people to buy them and then sit together at a game, it will have visual impact. You might even be starting a movement.
  • Let some of the local media know (Jake Curtis & Jeff Faraudo at SI, Adam Silver at the Chron, Daily Cal), I'll bet they'd mention it - those guys are always looking for content which requires zero effort on their parts.
  • Your ultimate goal would be to get coverage on a Pac-12 game where Walton was part of the crew. He wouldn't ignore it.

I'm with the stay classy crowd; no bags, no signs/shirts. It is obvious, even to the AD a change is necessary. Such signs really serve no purpose at this point. I don't think the players would appreciate it.

I do not think this is true. Knowlton's position has fundamentally never changed - Fox is great, the basketball program was in the worst spot in our history when Fox took over, Fox endured Covid restrictions unlike anyone else in the world, recruiting has to get better. That basic position has not changed in 3 years.
