Would you watch Cal basketball next year if Fox stays?

Made this thread out of my own curiosity. If you're a poster on this forum you must still follow the program to some extent so I'm curious if Fox being retained would fully end your interest in the program.

I would probably keep myself informed but I doubt I would attend any games. Certainly no emotional investment.

Fox has to go. Every year, when Cal calls me to ask if I want tickets, I tell them that as long as Fox is coaching I will not attend games.

Tough question. We have had season tickets to FBall and BBall for more than 30 years. We sit in the stadium club for football and fourth row mid-court for basketball.

We have attended most of the games this year. We also attended all the games in Holmoe's last year, all the games during Sonny's first year, and all but one of the Wyking games.

We live in Napa so it is a drive to get to weeknight games, To answer the question
  • We will not make the drive for the remaining home games this season.
  • I don't know whether we will get tickets for next season. That had been an automatic yes for decades.

I suspect you are not the Lone Ranger. Pass this on to Knowlton or his successor.

John Wooden, Coach K, Roy Williams and Dean Smith would struggle to win four games with such an injury depleted roster!!! It's just an incredible, unbelievable string of bad luck! Just wait until everyone is healthy and he has a true off-season/preseason to mold this group into a champion!

I don't watch it now. I check the scores here and there but I'm completely apathetic at this point. I graduated in '03 and used to follow closely, go to a good number of games, and at least watch/listen to most of them.

Haven't watched a game this season, neither in person nor on TV. And attended one game and watched maybe 7 games total on TV in the prior 2 seasons.

To put into context, I was a season ticket holder under Martin and the last couple years under Monty even though I couldn't make most of the mid-week games, but I never missed watching a game.

This season, I was loosely following the team to see if Fox could go winless but stopped completely after the first win. Now I just visit this forum periodically to commiserate with the few remaining fans.

None of my friends had any interest in going with me to games this season. Even the free t-shirt giveaways couldn't make up for the game to them this year. In my life I've never generally had a problem going to games even when my professional teams have been bad. I can usually find some enjoyment in the sport and gameday atmosphere even when they lose a lot. But this season it just hasn't even been fun. We are just so poorly coached and it hurts to watch the on court product. The energy's so lackluster in the crowd, which makes sense since what is there to root for? It's just not enjoyable to go to the games, as many people here have said. I think I'd sit out next year if Fox is back.

All I want is ONE good season in football or basketball before I graduate. Just one!! Please!!!

You bring up a great point od... I mean the on court product is obviously awful. But is the department actively sabotaging or ignoring basketball entirely? For the first portion of the season there were no micmen/lady for the student section, the band missing, etc

It's either administrative negligence or administrative malice

This is how we started football season, too. Basically no effort or sense of responsibility to hit the ground running with a solid game-day experience. Weak.

I didn't watch it this year because he wasn't fired. So no. No way.

And I've been a fan since the 70's, season tix for years until I moved away from the Bay but even after that I've always managed to make 4-5 games and went to great lengths to get the abysmal Pac-12 network just so I could watch Cal hoops.

This program is dead.

Nope. He's the worst basketball coach in our history. The Man has destroyed our program. Only at Cal with our incompetent AD where a guy like Fox is still coaching right now. If he gets another year, I might be done with Cal athletics until Dumbazz Jim gets fired.

The Fox Program is dead (I'm sure that was your point), but Cal Basketball could be respectable again surprisingly soon, with a decent coach and a reasonable amount of NIL. That's the positive side of the current landscape.

I checked furd score. I started to watch the game on my phone. Was tied but Furd started to pull away and Cal looked so stagnant on offense. I decided to play assassin's creed (and just a replay on my PS5).

That is where we are folks. And I used to be PASSIONATE about Cal BB.

They would adjust and communicate, not withdraw in silence.
Coach Wooden would have phoned Sam Gilbert and requested another purchase.

Discontinued my 30 yrs of season tix when Fox was hired. I still followed the games on TV and went to the occasional game. At some point, I went to recording the games so I could skip thru commercials and free-throws, etc. Now I am down to still recording them, but only watching if I am feeling up to it. I think the last game I watched was the win against the furds, but only after sneaking over here to see how they did. I don't see much changing next year if Fox is retained.

Please give to Cal Legends at https://calegends.com/calegendsdonate/donate-football/ and encourage everyone you know who loves Cal sports to do it too.

I think this question is one or two years two late. There is nothing shown this year or last that wasn't obvious two years ago.

I cancelled my season tickets two years ago (after 30+ years). Most fans left early in the Jones era. A small minority came back to see if Fox was OK, but those and many more departed quickly.

This year, I let my Sling expire and don't even bother with P12 network. If the game is on ESPN or Fox, I may watch a portion of it before I give up.

That is what it will be like for the next two years (assuming FOX is still coaching). A new coach would change that - I would be more interested.

But the most unfortunate thing though is people have said the same exact things in his post seriously while defending Fox before. Hopefully those fans have learned their lesson.

It's funny seeing Eastcoastcal follow every student's trajectory of being a Cal sports fan in college. You start off optimistic and filled with spirit… only for it to be crushed as the years progress.

Try being a townie who attended an undergraduate institution where Hockey is king. It is INFINATELY worse as Cal is your only team and has all the emotional connections that come from starting to root for them at the age of 7. Like Michael, just when you think you have gotten out they pull you back in.

No way I attend games much less support Cal BB while Fox and Knownuttin remain at Cal. I won't attend football games either although I am a supporter of that staff (and rugby).

I do support Charmin although she has a ways to go yet...perhaps this latest win gets them over the hump.

WTH is going on with the women's swim coach and women's volleyball coach. Just embarrassments every where you look on the Cal athletic landscape!!
