If he would consider Cal, what would Cal do to bring him to Berkeley?

Would X coach consider Cal? That is the question to ask, and not, should Cal target this guy? The state of basketball program administration and commitment(facilities, NIL, etc), Knowlton competence, and future of Cal in Pac12 will cause many guys, even younger up-and-comers out west to really question whether it's worth it to take this challenge, let alone nationally prominent coaches and career east coasters. Cal will still be near the bottom in salary.
Exactly. We've been going steadily downhill beginning with the loss to Hawaii, for a host of reasons, and now we have a reputation, which will take a lot of money and a very talented coach/recruiter to undo and reverse.DWM81 said:
My friend was Pitino's lead Assistant last year. He says Pitino would never come to Cal. Pitino wants to win and win big...
If the objective is to fire the coach, what is to be gained by continually verbally ridiculing the one person most likely to have the authority to fire him? If Knowlton reads these threads, wouldn't he be more likely to dig his heels in, and not give in to us? Do you think we can bully him into submission?calumnus said:smokeyrover said:

Fox is the highest paid coach of the many teams in the Bay Area and Northern California. That includes teams that are currently ranked.
$1.9 million per year is a great salary for the thousands of basketball coaches who are not elite, not proven winners in conference and in the NCAA tournament.
Fox has the highest salary per win the conference, the second highest in the entire country (Louisville has us beat there, but it is Payne's first year, this is Fox's 4th).
An AD that extends a losing coach like Fox and makes excuses for a 3 win season is not driving away "good up and comers" they would love to work for an AD who is so laissez faire and get $1.9 million a year with zero expectations. Who wouldn't want a job like that? The problem is that Knowlton is not competent to find and hire a good up and comer.
We need to have a search committee, made of of Cal basketball alums not of Knowlton's choosing, run the next search. There are good young coaches out there that would LOVE to come to Cal.
Knowlton does not read Bi - but fortunately the decision while not officially announced, has been made. Just waiting till the conclusion of the season. JK has been in discussions with prominent X players, key donor's etc. and this time around will be a thorough vetting of options.SFCityBear said:If the objective is to fire the coach, what is to be gained by continually verbally ridiculing the one person most likely to have the authority to fire him? To see if he can get the worst record. Got to have his names attached completely to this. No one else should own it- well Fox and Knowlton.
Pending the Pac-12 Tournament results. Not that I'm expecting miracles.calumnus said:

He should not be penciled in as our next coach. If he wins out after a diligent and thorough search, so be it. But I wouldn't just do what the donors say. Just like I wouldn't just do what the search firm says. My we hire the best coach possible under the circumstances.
Seems too good to be true but keeping my fingers crossed.4thGenCal said:Knowlton does not read Bi - but fortunately the decision while not officially announced, has been made.
