Lars is not participating in pre game workouts. Askew has a leg brace.

Askew is not here. Wasn't on the bench Thurs either.

Celestine in uniform, not participating in warmups though.
Inthought I saw the Askew hair doo

The player in the leg brace was Josh Ragsdale.

I live in LA. I'm not going to drive 6 hours (probably more in this weather) to see this game...
I have no excuse - I live in North Oakland. But I chose to go for a bike ride because it wasn't too cold or raining.

Sorry to miss senior day but:
* Thursday we set a new Cal record for most losses in a season.
* Today we tied the Cal record for most conference losses in a season.
* Next week we'll probably set a new Cal record for most conference losses in a season.
* If we don't win any PAC-12 Tournament games we'll set new Cal records for fewest wins and worst percentage.

….by the way, I'm a believer that if you do anything, do it Big. If you are going to suck, GO BIG OR GO HOME!

*P.S. Cal covered the spread, which actually went up to 12 by tip off…..and I lost an opportunity to make bank.

Brown and 2K were very aggressive and good things happened.

2K had 11 and 9, and seemingly took on the entire WSU team at times.

Brown had 13, 7 and 9, not far from a triple double. He could beat his man every time and once in the paint he usually scored or made the right decisions.

The surprise player was Obinna who had his 3rd good game in a row, with this one being the jewel as he locked up WSU 6-11 future NBA player when no one else could

He also scored and hit 4-4 FTs

This game was very competitive with the difference being:

1. WSU Gueye who changed the game on both sides of the court. WSU was a completely different team with him in the game.

2. FTs. WSU hit theirs (including Gueye's 9-9 wittout hitting the rim once

3. The lid on the basket the last 5 minutes... We had 5 shots in a row that were either point blank range starting with Grant's missed dunk, to several shots that were in and out, or just rolled off

Very sad for me to see the seniors walk off the floor for the last time

great recap. a few disappointing calls from the refs too (though I generally dislike pinning games on officiating).

Last year we upset the oregon schools on the road. think we can do it again, at least against one?

It's unfortunate that the year was so lousy, but I will retain good memories of Joel Brown, Lars Thiemann and Kuany Kuany.

Thanks for keeping the faith wrt supporting these seniors. I totally agree with your #3. Those misses were so painful.

While Gueye had a solid game, I too was expecting him to break us, but was actually pleased with how Okafor held up against him (without fouling out?), especially in H2.

Good memories… hm, nope, not going to go that far. This season (and every Fox-tainted season) will go down as the Dark Ages of Cal hoops, and unfortunately for those fine young men they will always be connected to this disaster. I appreciate every player that dons the Cal uniform and tries his best out there.
But I don't believe in soft-pedaling it. Lars and Joel did not prove to be at a Pac-12 starter level, but we had to use them that way because who else did we have? You could make a case for 2K, but he never found himself as a scorer, and God knows we needed a scorer. I wish them the best and honor their effort, but let's not pretend this was something to be proud of.
I hope we are secretly interviewing now. I hope today was the last day Fox sets foot in Haas. I know it's definitely the last day I will set foot in Haas with Fox on the sidelines. If he's staying, we need all season ticket holders to show some balls and boycott.

Changing assistants wont make any difference. Already told Cal I will not renew if Fox returns.

Thanks oskidunker for making your intentions known to the sales office. If JK has any sense (I know, it's a big "if"), he will have a meeting after their 28th loss and ask how many confirmed season ticket nonrenewals they have. It will be a factor in whether Fox is fired or not, $$ and attendance matters. Those who think Fox's firing is a done deal without talking to their sales rep are sadly mistaken.

I went to the game to support our players. They had their chances but unfortunately couldn't make the necessary baskets. Did anyone see the WSU alumnus and Bay Area favorite there?

Not saying they progressed as much as I had hoped... and obviously the game results were a total disaster. I can be disappointed in players' overall situation, yet still retain good memories of them. Sorry you can't.

Regarding the coaching situation, I totally agree: Any competent AD has been preparing for this. I'm not sure ours has.

"Lars and Joel did not prove to be at a Pac-12 starter level.."

Strongly disagree about Lars. At the college level, surrounded by a decent cast where the opponent couldn't afford the luxury of double teaming him and the passes into him would be more refined, he would have been smashing it inside. He has a good touch around the basket. In the 36 years I have had season tickets, Cal has had a parade of big fellers with stone hands that couldn't make a bunny with no one within 10 feet of them.

Joel is more debatable. He had some solid games and also would have benefitted from a stronger cast. You have to be well above an average PAC 12 starter to impose your will in any meaningful way on this team and with this coach.

Vanover is second in the nation in blocks with 97, averaging 3.2 per game and is arguably the best or second best player in his conference. Oral Roberts is #25 in offensive efficiency according to Ken Pom (Cal is #311).

we've had some good centers with good hands that could score, but it's been a long time...

... last season with Kelly

Then there was the unicorn that we already talked about, but not as a freshmen, and then he transferred.

back further was King and Rooks. Neither scored many points and had poor shooting percentages. King only shot 40% and scored 5 points his senior year. Rooks was worse. Lars was better than both.

in many years we didn't have a true center, relying on a PF like Kravish and Kelly.

Solomon had a PF body, but a C game. It took him till his senior year to be a well-rounded player (and strong rebounder), but never developed a strong offensive game besides putback dunks.

So basically, We've had strong scoring PFs (with good hands) that played center out of necessity, but Cal has never had strong scoring centers. Lars was the best true center in over a decade, and I'm not expecting much initially from our incoming freshmen center

But regardless, whether he is a good center doesn't really matter. He helped this team, especially defensively, making us better in all but a few games.

Going back a-ways (like me!): the late Mark McNamara, low post scoring machine. Led the Pac 10 in scoring, rebounding and FG% his senior year.

Theiman's field goal percentage is only .490 this year (.522 overall), which isn't very good for a big man that primarily only shoots from around the basket. Going back about 30 years: Kelly, Lee, Rabb, Rooks, Solomon, Boykin, MSF, Kamp, Anderson, Benson, Powe, S. Hughes, Lampley, Grigsby, Marks, Stewart, SAR, and Hendrick all played in the post, had much better hands, and had comparable, if not better, field goal percentages around the basket.

You listed only 4 centers (Rooks, Solomon, Stewart, MSF), maybe Lee for 5, and maybe 6 if you add Kelly, and going back farther, Ellis(?) and Sampson

Everyone else was a PF on your list
