I want to thank Jim Knowlton and Mark Fox for bringing some activity back to the BI Basketball message boards. Its been far too quiet for far too long.

he's not evil, seemed to have good character, and worked hard
he was not successful and is not my type of coach but wish him and his family well

I don't consider anyone "evil" but I am definitely not a fan of those that adopt authoritarian methods, do harm and cause pain for others, while making $millions and then blame others and make excuses for their own failings and unwillingness to change.

For my message to the fired coach, I would like to borrow a long-ago quote from Tom Crean:
"You know what you did! You helped wreck the program! You helped wreck our program!"
Amen to that!!calbear80 said:

i don't believe it was for lack of trying. No one wants to lose or be unsuccessful. It was just a terrible fit.

You really think he was trying when he didn't change his ****ty staff the entire 4 years? Or didn't attend AAU games or admittedly bother to recruit talented players because he felt it would be too hard to bring them to Cal? Or spend any time trying to engage the fan base? Or try to change his philosophy or scheme when it was clearly not working for years?
I've never seen a more obvious case of someone not trying…although I don't blame him for not trying when your boss is so incompetent they give you an extension after setting school losing records.
Fox had a role with the national team between Georgia and Cal gigs. It was probably thatconcordtom said:
I heard Charles Barkley give a shout out to a couple of his good friends who lost their jobs the other day, Mark Fox and Patrick Ewing.
Anyone know how it is that Barkley is friends with Fox?

He's not evil but I don't thank Fox for squat. If he has real character, he would offer to resign. Yeah, I know he had a contract, and I understand the basics of contract law (offer, acceptance, consideration) but in point of fact, he's taking money for the next two seasons that he will not earn. And there are parts of the job, like encouraging student attendance, engaging alumni and media, or improving his staff, that he made little or no effort to do during his entire tenure.HoopDreams said:

I was kind of touched when I saw a photo of old Dick Kuchen in the stands at Haas, and I'm glad that Ben Braun, who I consider to be sort of an amiable clown, and curmudgeonly Mike Montgomery still maintain Cal connections even if it may be related to their jobs as Pac12 Network announcers, but I don't want to see "Mark Fox" and "Cal" in the same sentence ever again.
