I know it's not a Cal game, but I think this game, which will decide if Pasternack & UCSB get a berth into the NCAA tournament, merits a game thread. The game's at 6:30 PST and I believe will be streaming on ESPN+ (though I am sure you may be able to find alternative ways to view it).

Figured I'd start a game thread now. I'll be watching to see how Ajay plays and the coaching decisions that Pasternack makes in-game

It will be on ESPN2 (channel 725 on Comcast/Xfinity). 6:30pm.

Pretty sloppy game. Guess they're all gassed from playing so much but it kind of looked like Cal vs Cal in the first half.

I would have thought Kelly would have a b
igger impact at UCSB.I based this on his play last year with Cal cause many times he looked pretty dominant. His stats were a whole lot better last year period. A lot of shots of pasternek looking very animated and at times angry and screaming at the refs.

Pasternack has made the ultimate impact on Andre (per Andre) by supporting him and being there for him on and off the court. Kelly's Mom told JP that He literally saved Him and she was beyond appreciative. Its very telling when player's and a Mother express deep emotions of thanks. Kelly now enjoys the game again and happy for him to experience MM - He deserves it.

I wonder if Knowlton would pass on Pasternak just because he has tons of influence with donors. Would this cause a problem or threat for Knowlton who may have to take a black seat. Pasternak may be able to get not only the program off the ground but as close to prominence as Cal could have with the bureaucrats and politics associated with the program.

Knowlton may want an outsider so his position is not Compromised in his mind. This would be sad and hope Christ would not allow for him to do this.

Pasternak is the guy, give him the job and let's go.

If Knowlton has half a brain and wants to stay on as AD them on this search he would align himself with the big donors and basketball alumni.

I am not thrilled with Pasternak, I believe there are better possible Cal coaches out there, but there are definitely a lot worse. A lot worse. Pasternak is safe, a known entity, a good enough fit, a good enough coach that, with the backing of substantial NIL (which sounds plausible) could be really good at Cal.
