So much momentum in like a week than all of Fox' tenure. It really shows was a little energy and ambition can do from the right source. You can send this post to the Fox venting tent thread as necessary.oskidunker said:

It's all about money at this point.
Bay Area is very rich.
Cal grads are both numerous and wealthy.
But how much are they will to spend on having that winning sports program?
-So far, not so much! We are not the most rabid fan base, too much other good stuff in life to enjoy, unlike in places like Lawrence Kansas or anywhere in SEC territory.
Our NEAR TERM goal is $1.5m. We aren't there yet. And even then we need to get beyond that.oskidunker said:Any-idea what some of the top 20 schools are spending on Nil? But bottom line the cost for us of a championship program is a fraction of what we collectively donate to Cal athletics every year. We spend eight figures through the university and we stink. We spend a couple of million through NIL and we are in the tournament.
This is not a tough calculation. Personally I'd rather spend less and win than spend more and lose.

Too many administrators, coaches, staffing, building engineers, etc taking their cuts before it goes to the players.
This is very shortsighted!!!
If you invest in players, you'll get wins.
If you get wins, you'll get ticket revenue and other associated income.
If you get additional income, all prior mentioned parties will get their money.
Quit putting the 19 year old phenoms at the bottom of your payroll structure.
Mark Madsen… how much is his salary?
How much does the AD make?
How about if someone made an example and gave a hefty donation to the "purchasing players" fund.
If Madsen wins, he'll ultimately make MORE money down the line. It's an investment in his own career. And the Department should recognize the same.
Except alums don't primarily live in the college towns. How much of the Georgia fanbase is heading to Athens from Atlanta for football games? From New Orleans up the road to BR for LSU games? Yeah, those cities have a few things to "enjoy."concordtom said:calbear80 said:

If you are implying Madsen should make that donation this is silly to an extreme. He is an employee. He has no ownership interest in anything. Why would he risk his salary for some theoretical bigger payday down the line...where, oh by the way, having seen him do it once the next school would likely expect him to donate his salary to players again.concordtom said:Sebastabear said:Our NEAR TERM goal is $1.5m. Correct - Madsen actually brought it up that He would like to donate from His salary to the NIL Collective Fund (This guy gets it and is all in!) However He quickly was told that NCAA regulations prohibit it from being done. I can't speak to donations to the dept and how the various cuts/deductions are done, but for the NIL collective the monies are Very efficient in the net amount doled out to the players. It is up to us fans and alumni to donate funds that are made available to players. Beyond that, as an employee of the university and HC of the team he is likely prohibited from giving to that fund; the university cannot pay players.
I'm four plus hours away and like to hit a few games each year, visit with friends and reminisce a bit. Well, I used to until the last guy made things so unfun I quit. Fun is a huge plus. Competitiveness helps. A really good team would probably motivate me to make more trips.parentswerebears said:
I live in Marysville and will happily drive down to Haas a few times a season if I am going to see a Cal team that can win. 3 hours each way isn't a problem if it's fun. If it's a Fox run, slow down, boring loss- nope!
I disagree re too many coaches. Investing in coaches, good coaches increases your chance of winning and you should be funding every coaching position well enough to get good people at every position.concordtom said:Sebastabear said:Our NEAR TERM goal is $1.5m. He did - $250K to the academic tutoring center. Spread out with $50k/year donation.ncbears said:

+1 and as per a post I saw some time ago, the folks running the collective self-fund the administrative/operating fees so that the dollars donated go straight to players, no skin off to be siphoned away for bureaucracy.4thGenCal said:Correct - Madsen actually brought it up that He would like to donate from His salary to the NIL Collective Fund (This guy gets it and is all in!)
