Sounds like the Celtics will try to sign him to an extension...

Not that Reddit is 100% representative of a fan base, but if you go onto Celtics Reddit, the first 7 posts are about Brown, trading him, his lack of handles and his abundance of turnovers. Reminds me a lot of some of the fans on this board during his freshman year.

As a warriors and cal fan, I'd be more than happy to take brown off of Boston's hands
I'll plead guilty to being one of those Cal fans who bemoaned Brown's turnovers during his freshman year at Cal. I think most of us who did criticize Brown's turnovers were a bit blinded by his star-power recruit ranking, and so we expected too much of him.

First of all, it is the job of a player's coach to put each player in as many situations as possible where the player can have the best chance to succeed. Cuonzo Martin, while an excellent defensive coach, had a simplistic offensive scheme. Part of that was his wanting, or at least not discouraging his guards and wings to play coast-to-coast. That is, get a rebound or a loose ball, and drive the length of the court and put up a shot. And this is the basketball CYO teams play in the first grade of elementary school. Brown often lost the ball on fastbreaks like that, trying to dribble through two or three defenders. I don't attribute that to bad handles, or poor decisions. It was poor strategy by the Cal coach.

Secondly, Brown was a freshman. Before he arrived at Cal, he had played against good players in high school and all star games, but he had not likely come up against college coaching staffs, who would all spend countless hours watching tapes of Brown, analyzing his tendencies, and then scheme some ways to stop him, including stealing the ball from
him.

We can't deny that Brown, or the way Martin used him, resulted in a lot of turnovers. Brown led the Cal team in turnovers with 105. Brown's nearest competitor was Ty Wallace with 75. Brown was 2nd in the PAC12 in total turnovers to UW's Dejounte Murray, who had 110. Murray was also a freshman. Brown's turnover percentage was 17.9, which is quite poor. Stephen Thompson had the best TO % with 7.6, Jabari Bird was 8.4, and Jordan Mathews was 10.4.

Then there was the most important game in his career, up to that point, when he made 7 turnovers against Hawaii in the NCAA 1st round. If he had had a normal game for him, Cal wins that game easily. Years later, he revealed he had been up all night writing a paper for his grad level course. Kudos to him for not using it as an excuse, which players with less character might have done. Still with NBA travel schedules, there will be sleepless nights, so he will have to learn how to handle that. I remember when Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in a game, after having been up all night partying.

Jalen has improved a great amount since his Cal days, and will no doubt continue to improve. I wish him all the best in his career.
