I doubt anyone gets this as we are talking 1968-70

" I love a Fossil, I always will"

Hint. Dancing on the table tops after a few drinks.

Well, here's shocky's guy McGraw's chance to prove he actually played in the Cal Band. Of course, then we will know his BI handle. Dude's probably been "monitoring" this site for years.

My buddy was in the band our freshman year. After a couple of road-trips he said, "Wow! I didn't realize what sick, twisted, demented mother f@uckers some of those dudes are."

The fossil was one of the most ardent Cal fans I ever met and he gave such a thrill

Not sure about dancing on tables

Demented, perhaps, I still have my multi page mimeographed dirty song sheets

That would have been right around the last year or two the Cal Band was all male (or the first year or two that women were allowed to join the Band). Think fraternity, without the "suave and debonaire" factor.

I was in the Cal Band with Andrew McGraw. Talented drummer and dedicated bandsman. We missed him when he decided to join the football staff after his first years in the band. Worked out for him just fine.

^^^ I was always pro-McGraw, just based on Shocky's recommendation, but now I'm rock solid behind him! ^^^

William Ellsworth, aka "ellsworth", fossil, etc. Class of 1950. Cal Band announcer until his death in 1973. Worked for the ASUC coordinatiing spirit groups. Spent a lot of time with the Band. Beloved by band members, but never taken too seriously. He was a sweet guy who loved the band down to his shoes. At the appropriate time, he would break into a soft shoe dance to "Tea for Two". Many of the traditions started by Bill are maintained by the current announcer, Albertl Locher, such as the score prediction before every home football game. Bill was a redhead who died his hair blue on the Monday (Blue Monday) before the Big Game. He was a very endearing character, and it's great that his "fossil" song is stsill remembered.

And that was the Furd Marching Band.
