….where Cal hoop junkies everywhere can satisfy their hoop Jones pending the commencement of The Madsen Era Maiden Voyage.

I like both The Joker and Jimmy Butler. I like the local angle on Aaron Gordon. The kid has a high motor.

For people in the know, how close were we to actually landing Gordon?

I like Jokic and Butler too....I saw Gordon play when he was a soph at Mitty in the state tournament. He was the most talented player I ever saw play that hard in High School. Usually, the most talented player doesnt have to play hard to excel in HS but he never took a possession off. You really have to respect that from any player let alone the best player on the court (at Mitty). Only knock is his shooting but he does so much else you just have to live with that.

I am not in the know, but I believe the "BI poster consensus" at the time was that we made one of his lists (dunno if "short list" or not), perhaps as a courtesy to the local school, but were not super-close to landing him.

Somebody want to verify that? Or recount how it actually came down?

"Jokic and Murray are just the second duo to each have 25 points and 10 assists in a Finals game, joining Magic Johnson and James Worthy in 1987.

The other side: The Heat went 2-for-2 from the foul line, the fewest free throws ever attempted in a playoff game and tied for the fewest ever made."

That Joker dude is amazing. Knocking on the door to be one of the Top Five all-time centers. Just needs a ring or three and a few more years like this. When does the series start, next week or something?

Jokic is a great player, but there are a lot of great centers in NBA history.

….and Miami had an 11 point lead in the 1st Quarter.

*Heat stole that game like Viktor Hovland stole the Memorial today.
*I give stock tips too.

Russell, Chamberlain and Abdul-Jabbar (not necessarily in that order)

Shaq

Olajuwan

Lots of other great centers, but does anybody else challenge that top five? This is off the top of my head, so if there are others, I'm not gonna be surprised. Okay, Tim Duncan, if you count him as a center.

How many of those guys brought the ball up, ran the half court offense or shot 3's? Not saying Jokic is better than them (his defense certainly isn't), just that it's a different game and he's a different problem than "center."

Who was the last 6'11" 285 lbs center to pull off the Pistol Pete behind the back cross over on the way to the hoop?

*The Joker did that move tonight and scored

* "Nikola Jokic had 41 points for the Nuggets, who are now 0-3 this postseason when he scores 40+ points (and 13-1 when he scores fewer than 40).

The two-time MVP had just four assists, well below his playoff average of 10.5.
Could the secret to success for Miami be turning Jokic, an elite playmaker, into more of a scorer? The numbers say yes, but Erik Spoelstra says no."

When he dribbled behind his back the second time, that was awesome! That guy that he faked out of his socks is going to be catching some major s*** for a long time.

Moses Malone was MVP of the league three times. And yeah, just cause Duncan refused to play center after the Admiral retired doesn't mean that I'm going to consider him a power forward.

Jokic is solidly Top 10 right now. Top 5 is a little murkier.

Jabari Bird, Aaron Gordon and Marcus Lee said they were a "package" they all wanted to play together and wanted to stay local. Bird of course was a Cal basketball legacy. There were some issues with Lee as his mother felt disrespected/insulted by Montgomery on a home visit. Lee's older brother posted on the site and was pushing Marcus toward Kentucky but made it clear Marcus really wanted to go to Cal.

Everything changed when Monty shoved Allen Crabbe on national television in February 2013 and it made national headlines and sparked national discussion of race and physical and verbal abuse in sports. Lee and Gordon dropped Cal, with Gordon committing to Arizona in Aprl. Lee's family made it clear he would not play for Monty (but transferred to Cal after Monty retired).. Rising junior Ivan Rabb dropped Cal too, but added Cal back and signed with Cuonzo. Bird, a Cal legacy who was a rabid Cal fan, was the only of the three that commited anyway.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Joe Lacob's brain is currently dominated by thoughts of how to maybe get the Joker out here. What if he gave up the entire current roster, all draft choices through 2030 and his son Kirk?

How about the infamous Bill Walton?

Bill Russell
Moses Malone
Patrick Ewing
George Mikan
Bob McAdoo
Robert Parish
Dikembe Mutombo

If you could put the Joker in a time tunnel and send him back to the 1960's to play a game vs Wilt or Russell, my guess is that the Joker would light both of them up with his outside shot, including fade aways closer to the basket.

I think both Wilt and Bill would stymie Joker's inside game with their foot speed and athleticism. Even more so if Joker had to play by the one and a half steps rule after picking up his dribble on a drive (he usually gets away with a solid 3 steps and sometimes 4).
