At practice this morning, rushed to hospital. Now reported to be out of ICU and in stable condition

Awful. It's got to be questionable that he can return for the season, and maybe ever. Thankfully he's already secure, at least financially and in terms of health care. Most aren't so lucky.

Cal's Tierra Rogers thankfully did not die. But she never got to play although I believe she stayed on scholarship and then graduated

Didn't those two die from issues related to drug (cocaine) use?

Happened when I was at Berkeley High in the early 70s. Our leading scorer, Greg Brown, died on the court. It was devastating. In a wonderful gesture, Alameda agreed to forfeit the game after his death to us since it was clear our team just couldn't play that soon--the forfeit allowed BHS to be undefeated in the ACAL.

Len Bias, yes, but Reggie Lewis, no, at least no medical evidence, just "public opinion."

Well, public opinion seems to be the only evidence certain posters require to make claims like this.

If you're referring to me and my post, note I asked a question. I didn't make an assertion of fact. I was a kid when both died. It was still the era before the internet was common. I recalled hearing some things about each of them dying from drug (cocaine) use. Specifically, I recall hearing comments that Reggie Lewis and Len Bias abused illegal drugs (specifically, cocaine).

TBF, this wasn't exactly uncommon for that era. There have been plenty of rumors and reports that plenty of NBA athletes abused illegal drugs (including cocaine) in the 1980s and 1990s. Heck, even Michael Jordan's recent self-produced documentary noted that his teammates threw parties that included cocaine abuse during his rookie year. Jordan's rookie year was only three years before that of Reggie Lewis. It's not surprising to think that Reggie Lewis abused cocaine and may have died from complications related to such usage.

That said, I wasn't sure if that was the case for either of them; hence the question. Or are questions not allowed unless the poster knows all of the facts, first?

TBC, I've never heard of anything connecting Bronny James to the use of drugs. So his sudden cardiac arrest is alarming, given he's a young athlete.

Did a little reading around this subject, I think it happens more often than you might think, but we usually don't hear about it because it isn't a famous player.

https://www.insider.com/cardiac-arrest-biggest-killer-of...

Summary from the study:

80 NCAA Athlete medical deaths in 5 years (Jan04-Dec08), 45 of them cardiac related.

Makes you wonder how many cardiac arrests there are as well that do not result in death, presumably we just don't hear about them unless they are local/our team or superfamous, and Bronny is both.

Overall Sudden Cardiac Death rate of all players: 1:43,770
Overall Sudden Cardiac Death rate of MBB players: 1:3,100
WOW! 14x greater

Total D1 MBB players is around 5,500 from a figure I read.
