This is proof positive that what we perceive as reality is just some wacko fifth dimensional satire being performed by and for the benefit of beings we can't comprehend. No other explanation possible.
There has never been a guy in the history of the world who was less "all in" on NIL than Mark Fox. I was actually told by some donors I'd gotten to agree to give to California Legends that they reneged because he told them NOT TO donate. They subsequently came back (and donated) when Madsen was hired.
Completely and utterly baffling.
I'd made a promise to myself to never comment on Fox again, but I'm breaking it now. I think Fox did everything possible to get fired and trigger the buy-out. The total $ value of his contract should provide a comfortable retirement for any reasonable person, particularly if he planned to take any half-baked job to provide healthcare insurance, etc until eligible for Medicare. My evidence:
- Produces a horrific record
- Makes no effort to engage local media to enhance Cal's profile.
- Repeatedly drives the best players off the team
- Refuses to engage alumni donors
- Actively submarines Cal's NIL efforts that could benefit the team
Fox wasn't completely incompetent. Incompetent employees try, but don't succeed. Fox chose to not perform parts of his job, basically daring Knowlton to fire him and pay the buy-out.
Fox in the words of our AD "had checked out" this past season since "He knew he was getting fired" Aaaah AD that is your responsibility to ensure the HC and staff are putting in the time/effort and follow up with the players. W/O going into the incredibly disappointing examples of the players 'checking out as well", lets leave it that the players had also thrown in the towel. The prior staff had No clue to what the players were doing and not doing. Fortunately, that is in the past and the current staff along with Coach Madsen are intimately aware of all the players schedules, living arrangements, nutrition intake and team chemistry building. Its very refreshing and encouraging to know that this staff is truly on top of each player's daily life/responsibilities etc.
The day dip sh*t Knowlton figured out that Fox had "checked out" he should have fired him, especially if it was in-season. Or did Knowlton figure it out the day he fired him?
I don't know. Knowlton last year extolled "Bill Musgrave's exciting offense" at halftime of the Colorado game when we had 1 first down and were down 0-3 to the worst team in the conference.
He is just terrible. Hopefully the investigation into his mistreatment of swimmers and mishandling of the McKeever allegations, plus his repeated fiscal malfeasance including our current situation, gets him fired for cause.
