This is huge and the silence is deafening. Normally takes 21 days.

I was under the impression that he already received clearance. Anyone else remember that?

According to the advanced stats, Tyson is our second most valuable player, one of two on the roster who are far above average. Having him be eligible is critical.

Really looking forward to watching Jaylon Tyson play.

The scoring, obviously, but this team Madsen has put together has several scorers. Tyson's defense and rebounding will be huge for us, I think.

Yeah the official looking "Darnell Terry" has 2 followers and 1 of them is the mysterious Jacob Lee!

There isn't a lot of risk here, this is a formality.

And Tyson may well be the Bears best player and an All-Conference performer in 2023-4

Quick, what's the biggest turnaround in NCAA history, as measured by increased number of wins from one year to the next? Because that's what we're gunning for.

(sadly, what really gives a shot is only having won 3 games last season -- three! -- but still... )

From ChatGPT

the NCAA record for the biggest turnaround in men's basketball from one year to the next is held by the Iowa State Cyclones, who improved by 19 wins from the 2020-21 season to the 2021-22 season1. They went from 2-22 overall and 0-19 in the Big 12 conference to 21-11 and 10-8, respectively, and also won an NCAA tournament game1. This is the largest single-season improvement in college basketball history1.

The second-biggest turnaround in men's basketball is shared by two teams: the Kennesaw State Owls and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Both teams improved by 18 wins from one season to the next. The Owls went from 1-28 in 2019-20 to 19-8 in 2020-21, reaching the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history2. The Buckeyes went from 8-22 in 1997-98 to 26-9 in 1998-99, advancing to the Final Four behind stars Scoonie Penn and Michael Redd3.

that was discussed in another thread a few months ago. I think we need to win 23 games to set the record.

Gonna be tough. Will help if we can make a run in the final Pac 12 Tournament.. What if we make the NIT and make a little run there... do those count? (love to make a run in March Madness, of course)

Can someone succinctly explain why the Tez Walker decision shouldn't concern us here?
Please give to Cal Legends at https://calegends.com/calegendsdonate/donate-football/ and encourage everyone you know who loves Cal sports to do it too.

To be in the Top 1% of all NIL collectives we only need around 10% of alumni to give $300 per year. Please help spread the word. "If we don't broaden this base we're dead." - Sebastabear

i believe the rationale is because of racially insensitive/discriminatory remarks made by his coach at Texas Tech which caused the coach to lose his job. Those fall squarely within the exceptions to the rule as it currently is interpreted.

"The Division I Council decided earlier this year that multiple-time transfers must document injury, illness or mental-health concerns necessitating the transfer or issues surrounding the athlete's safety." Tyson's appeal is in that mental health category, based on racialized comments his former coach made at TTech, reportedly directed at him: https://www.npr.org/2023/03/09/1162199279/texas-tech-basketball-coach-resigns-racial-comments-mark-adams

Walker's appeal didn't fit in those categories, he enrolled first at NC Central before transferring to Kent State, playing two years at Kent State before transferring to UNC. NC Central didn't play football in 2020 due to COVID. His appeal is more common sense - he left because his first school was literally not playing football? Although he didn't start playing at Kent State until 2021 when NC Central was back playing football, so takes a little bit of the justification out of it. And it doesn't meet the narrower criteria.

Thanks, I didn't know the backstory. Fingers crossed.

Belated congrats to eastcoast for becoming a "source."
