5 assists total? The Cal basketball motto should be "Next coach up?". Losing to teams like Montana St and whatever no-name team we lost to prior should never happen especially in the transfer portal era. We have better players then the other team so this is a hugely negative sign re Madsen. They had injuries as well - so injury is not an excuse. Hot garbage again.

We don't have anyone better than Walker.

I'd like to have seen Brown in and Aimaq out near the end. We needed steals and threes.

This Cal team is not operating smoothly on offense and is playing horrendous defense from the 3-point line and around the basket. Brandon Walker absolutely schooled Fardaws around the basket and Cone was only one for ten from the 3-point line. But what absolutely killed us were 16 turnovers. We just have to do a better job holding onto the ball. Tyson is the real deal.

The way I see it we played this game with a new lineup missing 2 guys who should start and 1 who would get major minutes. I'm not happy but I'm not surprised it looked rough. That said I sure wish we could find a way to get good shots for Cone. IMHO that was the difference.

Montana State is a two year straight tournament with 25+ wins both seasons. Tough opponent but, yes, at home you win this game -- even with the injuries.

The upcoming stretch could get rough with SDSU, UCSD, Butler, Santa Clara, etc.

Looked to me like we had a three-man offense. And one of them, Cone was not able to get uncontested threes. Tyson was a turnover machine until he got hot late. Aimaq had some turnovers, too, and was hung out to dry on defense with no help. Newell disappeared. Bowser was just a placeholder. Thirty-some minutes, no points.
Tough to beat a five-man defense with a three-man offense. Got some adjusting to do!

Danny and Barry have been calling games 'round these parts for 40 years. I love them both.

81 and 83 and both sharp as tacks.

Yes. Much love for the OGs of Cal/Pac12 basketball.

Well, he had his career game against us and played 28 minutes. He played 12 and 16 minutes in his prior two games so he is either out of shape or nursing an injury. I'm going to follow him in the box scores to see if I'm scouting him accurately or it was an aberration game.

In an earlier post people were complaining about attendance. But I think first we need a team that has proven that it is not just another Cal basement doormat.

# 2 Walker is 6'7 250 lbs. That was Wes Unseld's size. The dude has handles and a motor. He's good for 25.

Well, it looks like I blew that points prediction. Walker needs to get in shape. He sits too long. He was on track to get 30+ but he has to take the floor.
Walker reminded me of Andre Kelly when he was out of shape. He has a more polished offensive game than Kelly had, but Andre was stronger and a better rebounder. Walker is only a freshman (CORRECTION, HE'S A SOPHOMORE) and if he can transform his body the way Andre did, he could be a dominant player at the FCS level and potentially move up via the portal. I wonder if Andre is playing overseas this season.
