Yes I was wrong, and I guess I jumped to conclusions about more teamwork time and adding a player like Kennedy to the mix. But we all saw and enjoyed it yesterday. Now in a bit of fairness I did not know that Santa Clara's leading scorer Marshall was going to miss the game. I've seen him play and he's an excellent player, but Santa Clara's other standout Arizona transfer Adama Ball, while being effective still never seemed to overtake the game the way he did against Furd and Oregon. Credit to the Bears for that.

Let's hope yesterday was a progression as opposed to a one time thing. Game at Butler will be a good follow up test.

I particularly like that the team has a week before playing at Butler. Time to heal up the early season dents and dings, get some more practice time with Kennedy, and review lots of film to support and build on what is working and identify and break down what isn't.

Then another week before UCSD. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

An important two week/two game stretch as the Bears wrap up OOC.

To be fair, we were missing Celestine and Askew, and that allows Madsen a lot of flex with rest and line ups.

Butler at Hinkle - 12/9 (9am PT)
Ole Miss in San Antonio - 12/16 (rinse and repeat)
UCSD at home -- 12/20 Wed (avenge our 2 losses in consecutive years)

Nice catch, MOC. Most of what I said still stands. Substitute "Ole Miss" for UCSD.

I don't know about eating crow but any win is a good win. Let's get a few more before the conference starts.

Hopefully we have a nice day 12/16: Men's hoops in San Antonio right before our bowl game in Shreveport. Funny, much ado was made about the finals week conflict thing for the LA Bowl, but men's hoops already had a game scheduled for 12/16 in Texas.

Yeah. I found the basketball scheduling a bit odd. I figured it had to do with a last minute scramble to fill out schedule, but who knows?

I think that's it. The So Cal Challenge and San Antonio games were last minute fills by the staff. MF and JK left them in a lurch. Turned out to be pretty decent games.

It gives Madsen more flexibility. If Madsen wants more scoring, mostly on the perimeter, and some inside scoring and assists inside as well, then he plays Celestine for Newell. If he wants more interior defense and rebounds, he can play Newell over Celestine.
