I agree. Madsen has a short history as a head coach. What he did do was start off at Utah Valley with a losing record his first season, then a .500 record during the Covid year, and followed that with a winning season, and finally an excellent season and a conference championship. It was a solid progression over one 4-year recruiting cycle.

What I'd like to see from him first is success in at least beating the teams we should beat. He needed to demonstrate that he could beat mid-major and below teams in our pre-conference schedule, and we did not do that. I think we played one team from a P5 conference, Ole Miss, and lost, plus one team team from a High major conference, Butler, and gave them a scare before losing. We also played 9 mid-major teams, with 3 wins and 6 losses. There are teams in the PAC12 Cal should be able to be competitive with, and winning some of those games would be real progress from where we are now.
