Uniform idea for the UCLA game

It might be the last time we see them at Haas for a long, long, time. In this day and age from time to time watching college hoops I now see games where the home team wears its traditional "road" jersey, the primary color. I've been watching Cal hoops since the sixties, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, they have always worn white or gold for home games.

Saturday would be the perfect day for the Bears to show up in their blue uniforms. UCLA is the first team that deviated from the UC system schools color by wearing their well known lighter shade of blue colors. It's one of those things that makes UCLA different. Their blue is not - as Joe Kapp used to call it "rough tough blue."

I think if the Bears came with these unis it would really get a fired up crowd even more into it.

I know that not everyone will agree with me on this one, but if someone likes the idea and has any kind of pipeline of communication to MM, it would be cool if this could be at least suggested to him. Interested in hearing any comments on this.

You need one team to wear white, otherwise the colorblind fans won't be able to watch on TV.

The home team wears the lighter colors. I don't think I've ever seen a college game with the home team wearing darker, primary colors?

From the NCAA Rulebook:

  • Colors
Men's uniforms must be a single color, such as white, black, beige, or the jersey's dominant color. Opposing teams must wear different colors, with the home team wearing light colors and the visiting team wearing dark colors. However, the competing institutions can agree to change this rule as long as the shirts' colors are still contrasting.

If Cal wanted to wear their road colors, and UCLA agreed, the Bruins would have to wear their white (home jerseys) with blue numbers.

FWIW - USC and UCLA have traditionally (by agreement) both worn their home jerseys in their annual football game, so there's some precedent (albeit in a different sport).

Honestly does happen. In the last three years there have been several games when the home team work dark colors. It actually just happened a couple of weeks back, UCLA at USC. I tried to send out a link but it didn't work. But if you go to the Pac 12 site, check out Jan 27 game, USC wearing cardinal at home and UCLA actually wearing their blue road jerseys.

I don't think the color of our uniform will have any impact on the energy and enthusiasm of the crowd in Haas. I'm happy with wearing either our white or gold (yellow) uniforms. Crowd enthusiasm will be determined by the team's play on the court.

Sure you're right. But it certainly won't detract either. In this day and age stuff like this is common. Does anybody think that we really need the ninety second video that is played every time our starting lineup is announced? If we start a game losing 10-0 are the people going to be remain fired up because of that video? So many posters here often complain about how the Cal athletic department is behind the times. It's just an extension of entertainment and marketing. Let's join the club like many of the other big name schools do. I remember the first time Notre Dame's football team came out for a game wearing green jerseys. It created a buzz. Time to start doing stuff like we're in the 21st Century.

At the UCLA vs. USC basketball game at the Galen Center both teams wore road uniforms.
