- Cal's Shantay Legans is helped by trainers and coaches off the floor after UCLA's Matt Barnes elbowed him in the face and knocked him out cold for several minutes during UCLA's 69-51 loss to Cal at Haas Pavilion on Thursday, February 21, 2002, in Berkeley, Ca. Legans left the game with a concussion, and Barnes was ejected from the game for the act. I was at that game and my memory was Barnes hit Shantay with a forearm on the back of his head as he was taking the ball up court (not an elbow to face).
These articles confirm my memory:
"Legans missed Cal's last game, an 83-64 victory against USC, with a concussion that he sustained in the Bears' 69-51 victory against UCLA. Legans was downed by a forearm from Bruin forward Matt Barnes."

"Fighting for a rebound under the basket UCLA was defending, Cal
point guard Shantay Legans grabbed Barnes' jersey by the
neck. Barnes responded by throwing a forearm to Legans' head,
causing the Bear to crumble to the floor and remain unconscious for
nearly two minutes.
Barnes, who later said the shot was unintentional, was assessed
a flagrant foul and thrown out of the game.
As Barnes walked off the court, pennies were thrown at him and
at his family, who was in the stands. At that moment, any energy
the Bruins had appeared to be sapped out of them. For this game, at
least, that was it for UCLA."
