I'm trying to figure out how Cal got 11 more shots, yet were out rebounded by 9, had the same number of turnovers, and only had 4-5 fewer made baskets

Hey, anybody else watching on TV think Mike Montgomery wasn't coming across too well this evening? Part of it seemed to be his mic, but also his timing, like he was trying to say a 10 second bit and should've known he only had 5 seconds.

Any team that plays at Colorado, Utah, Air Force, etc. needs to give the starters more breaks and play their bench more. No matter how athletic and fit you are, a sudden change to 7,000 feet elevation is going to take something away from your performance. I remember that from times I've driven up to the Sierras, get out of the car, and start hiking.
Mark tried to rest Aimac in the 1H, but Larsen got torched (nearly 1 foul per minute). It's not about playing a bench, it's about having bench players who can play, i.e., some depth on the bench.polarbear said:

I feel from years start until now, our two most improved players are Keonte and Celestine. They have really amped it up. I sense that Newell is starting to do the same.bearister said:

I also think Newell has made improvements this year...looks better on his 3's...more aggressive with the ball...still not a good rebounder, but I haven't felt that we box out well as a team anyway...has a good turnaround jumper from 8 to 12 feet...
Does Kennedy have another year?? Will Tyson return next year?? Will Brown be the point guard next year??
I've seen Newell as one of the few rebounders that box out well.OdontoBear66 said:I feel from years start until now, our two most improved players are Keonte and Celestine. They have really amped it up. I sense that Newell is starting to do the same.bearister said:

A little more to it than that. While Aimaq might be not be a "box out" specialist, the reason he gets a lot of rebounds is not just because "he's just a big dude that takes up space...." He leads the Pac 12 in rebounds and he is 4th in the nation. There are a lot of "big dudes that take up space" in both the Pac 12 and the entire country. All season we've seen that Daws has an excellent instinct to find the ball. Many commentators on the games have repeatedly stated this as well.KoreAmBear said:I've seen Newell as one of the few rebounders that box out well.OdontoBear66 said:I feel from years start until now, our two most improved players are Keonte and Celestine. Aimaq gets a lot of rebounds because he's just a big dude that takes up space and he uses that to his advantage. But he doesn't look to find a body to box out.
With all the back and forth on Aimaq, I have to admit he misses way too many 'bunnies" but he has pretty solid hands for a big man, and also does not bring it down a lot so the smaller players can peck away at the ball. He is better at rebounding, controlling and passing out that he is about going back up with the ball. He should be shooting in the high 60s on that and is probably at 50% or so from perception.KoreAmBear said:I've seen Newell as one of the few rebounders that box out well.OdontoBear66 said:I feel from years start until now, our two most improved players are Keonte and Celestine.
