From ESPN article on draft combine:

Jonathan Mogbo, C, San Francisco: Mogbo didn't put up eye-popping stats -- 4 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists in 18 minutes -- but had impressive glimpses of playmaking and versatility not typically found among big men. His coach, Ryan Forehan-Kelly, gave him the freedom to push the ball up the court off defensive rebounds and initiate the half-court offense as a pick-and-roll ball handler. Mogbo, ranked No. 70 in our top 100, had flashes of pace, creative passing and polished footwork, which isn't surprising considering he's a late bloomer who grew up playing more guard until hitting a growth spurt.

I watched a little combine coverage and his name was in bold letters in a scrimmage scorebox. Maybe only 4 other assistant coaches are given this honor. A good sign for RFK! Could a head gig be in the near future?

I wonder if Lyndon Baines Johnson is still LBJ for most people.

Anyway, if Forehan-Kelly has a kid with the same name and he plays ball, this is gonna be even worse, down the road.

I'm not even sure what other LBJ there'd be honestly. Except I guess maybe LeBron James if you wanted to include Le & Bron and contextually we're on the basketball board. But I think some initials just have those strong connections through pop culture. Like, I still have that connection to the President for LBJ despite being born well after he already died.

Interesting, I wonder how he is listed as coach when Ryan is an Asst. with the Brooklyn Nets. (Nets Roster Scroll Down).

Also, about the same time as this original post, maybe a week earlier, I bumped into a gentleman with the same last name as Ryan. I asked him if by chance he was related to Ryan who played at Cal? He said yeah very enthusiastically and a bit surprised, and said that indeed he was brothers with Ryan. I told him how much me and my brothers absolutely loved the way Ryan played, he had heart.

He was so happy that a random person recalled his brother's triumphs. Then a bolt hit me, I said wait, what's your name? He said Tashaan. I said whoa, wait, didn't come to Cal too for like a season? He was really shocked again and said wow nobody ever remembers that, thanks! We had a lovely conversation about him transferring to Pepperdine (I think) and more. Really nice man and engaging to speak with. I wished him well asked him to spread some love to Ryan from me, my brothers and Cal fans alike.

10 mins later he came back and found me and said man I tried calling Ryan to share this with him but he's in a meeting. That was a nice touch.

Bottom line, I remember how Ryan's Mom would post here or on our prior site I can't recall and give us updates on his whereabouts as he played pro ball over seas. She was awesome and so friendly. It was really nice to have that flood of good vibes comeback. I felt then and I do now, that the Forehan-Kelly's are a great Bear fam.

^ Welcome back, HairOfTheBear! Wow, you took some time off between posts, eh? If you wrote a self-help book about how to do that, I would probably buy it... well, an e-book anyway, for sure. Nice RFK post! Go Bears!

RFK is currently a coach for the Nets. My understanding is that that two coaches of the NBA Draft Combine teams were drawn from a pool of NBA assistant coaches.

RFK simply coached the USF player during the combine contests.
