No surprises so far, it's pretty much what I expected:

-no single player leading the team like Jaylon did last year

-the system and flow are better early on in Madsen's 2nd season

-overall team talent is improved

-rebounding is significantly better with more big bodies compared to last year

-a couple scoring droughts in each half (especially the 2nd) but it looks like a team with higher upside than Madsen year 1 and less likely to drop so many close games early in the season

I'd say we look goof even though the ACC is a different beast and our schedule should prove much more challenging. I think we'll have a modest W/L increase to 16+ wins but given our competition that would represent a major step forward. Regardless, it's good to have a competent program again after the Fox debacle (plus Wyking, and Cuonzo…)

Great post.

GO BEARS!!!

If you believe in forever
Then life is just a one-night stand
If there's a rock and roll heaven
Well you know they've got a hell of a band

Stojokavic is going to be really good once he learns to play basketball. Dort is the big that should be groomed. Campbell needs a dictionary so he can look up "pass". Beshears doesn't set-up his teammates much. The ball is spending too much time in one person's hands; when the ball moves, Cal gets open shots. It is good that P hustles so much, but that asset is going to decline against better competition.

11 Assists between them in 2 games isn't too bad.

I knew we shouldn't have recruited the governor of Kentucky based on nothing more than basketball history of the state!

Seriously, I'm not sure I agree with any of your assessments (which is totally fine--my opinions are just that, worthless personal opinions). The ball movement looks good to me so far. Blackshear looks like the real deal. (Just like we all knew Tyson was the real deal from the very first game). Stojakovic, not so much--but it's true that he's forcing it now, so might improve slightly. Omot's stroke looks pure, regardless of whether the shots are going down. The plug and play depth is awesome, which will pay big dividends against the weaker opponents. Petraitis' facial bones were the MVP of the last game, and I'm sure they will reappear from time to time to the team's benefit.

I don't know about Rod Benson's top six prediction, but I do know that I will enjoy watching these guys play.

Two games against middling competition makex it hard to assess, but seem much more athletic, more scoring optiions, more physical

don't think rebounding is better
