Madsen has no confidence in any of the bigs other than Dort and Sisoko?

Dort has good post-up moves.

If there's a rock and roll heaven
Well you know they've got a hell of a band

17 points off the bench and 2-3 from three so far? Let's get this kid some more minutes in the very near future.

19 now. Looks like a real player!

Cal Straw Hat Band is not in Haas tonight. They're playing piped in music, and it is HORRIBLY loud.

Band should be at every home game, no excuses. I don't care if the band won the International Pep Band competition and are playing Wembley Stadium, 10 people stay behind to support the team. Just to be clear, I have no idea where they actually are, just making a point.

The band is busy with Big Game week events and rehearsals (along with their normal classes and schoolwork.)

They have zero answer for Wilkinson's athleticism.

Monster game for Wilkinson, I think he should start this year.
Can we learn how to defend the 3 though? Seriously, it will be a problem when we play ACC teams with sharpshooters.

We're not defending the 3 point line well at all tonight.

Good win. Lot to work on defensively (soft pick and roll coverage on shooters and slow rotations leading to foul trouble for Sissoko and Dort) but Andrej looked calm and in control down the stretch and Wilkinson proved he can really hoop. Time to get healthy and keep building. Go Bears

Has anyone said why the 3 didn't suit up tonight? Wilkinson made the most of his opportunity. A bit concerning Madsen has no confidence in any big to eat up a few minutes in a non-conference game after Dort and Sissoko.

Having 3 starters out made for a fun game although it got a bit dicey near the end.

Probably at the night rally at Bowles Hall. Agreed there should be SOMEONE there tho.

So with the Cal game over, I switched over to Memphis USF. Is Barry Tomkins still announcing? It sure sounds like him, he must be as old as Al Michaels...

Curtis is the only other big on the roster and he played maybe 4 or 5 minutes.

Madsen wasn't on the post game show on KGO radio. It was the associate Mazerei. All he said about the three men out was that we had some injuries. Of course the announcer Justin Alegri didn't ask him about the injuries. Great reporting.

I turned it off after that non answer. They obviously dont want us to know how three starters all got injured. I m sure Alegri was to,d not to ask why.

In 60 years of following Cal. Basketball I cant recall three starters ever getting injured at the same time . Must not be serious if they were dancing as others reported.. maybe they-all ran into each other in practice or had nagging injuries they fought through at Usc .They should put this on Murdock Mysteries. My guess is theyn all play Sunday

Cmon man, this happens every single year during big game week. Traditionally alumni band fills in, guess they couldn't round up enough this year.

Maybe next year you can volunteer. Do you play the cymbals?

Wonder if it's a discipline thing. If they aren't going to mention it, fans will just speculate. Could be not wanting anyone to key on injuries in the next game and plan was just to give them the night off. We're supposedly 10 deep so it really shouldn't matter that much that was a big gamble.

I play the sax, and of course I would have filled a slot if I had been asked (turns out, nobody cared enough to ask for volunteers). Clearly you're speaking from a position of zero knowledge about college bands if you think that the band can't split into two squads during Big Game week.
Supporting the major teams (NOT just football) is literally the primary job of the band. When they don't show, and the fans are as sparse as they were tonight, and the cheerleaders are just standing still on the floor because they have only practiced moves on band songs, not super loud recorded crap over the speakers - - well, it says a lot to the outside world about Cal sports, that's all I'm saying. Time to stop saying "c'mon, it's always been this way" and start saying, "How do we make the Haas experience worthy of the ACC, something to be proud of again?"

It was nice to give some PT opportunity down the bench in a winnable game. AF seemed well coached, but out manned. They were gassed in the second half, but had a great spurt of energy at the end. Seeing this ambulance lineup filled me with these thoughts:

Sissoko/Dort is our two headed monster. Glad we have both of them, because I don't think either could last 25 minutes without fouling out.

Devin Curtis - 6 minutes. Not sure what to do with this guy. Looks good - seems to disappear on the court.

Mahoney - 7 minutes. I want to see more.

Wilkinson - he should start in place of Campbell. But against tougher competition, he may get exposed as ball dominant and prone to defensive mistakes. But I enjoy watching him play. Like Petraitis, he has an infectious energy that makes the team better.

Petraitis - As a starter or 6th man swiss-army knife. Love watching him play and he should be getting starters minutes.

Stojakovic - Becoming the face of the franchise. Seems to get a little better each game.

Tucker - backup PG at best. Glad he gave us 34 solid minutes when needed. Probably gets much less, when everyone is healthy.

Ola-Joseph - I thought he deserved more minutes last night, but happy for his contribution. Maybe he just looks better against that level of competition.

Blacksher - we need him back against tougher comp. Campbell - would rather see him come off the bench. Omot - I hope he feels better against tougher competition, I think we will need him.

Bring back John Wheeler

Are you referencing Bear Talk with Marty Lurie, Dave Bollwinkel and John Wheeler? I could hardly wait to get to my car after the game to fire it up. My favorite caller was Ivan from wherever. He was a serious hoop junkie.

When the popular post game show ended, I spoke to Dave Bollwinkel about it (we were members of the same gym). Dave told me that the Cal hoop program got the show dropped for being "too negative." The Ghost of Mario Savio cried.

Well he used Curtis when he had to. It's not so much lack of confidence, he's got two primary centers and he's trying to win the game. That simple.

I know we want to keep our opinions realistic, but if Wilkinson is going to play like that, who wouldn't want him dominating the ball?
