Good for him! Could see him getting some minutes at that level. He looked serviceable enough two seasons ago. Wishing him the best!

He may have finished his Cal degree.

Not sure how we couldn't get him some minutes pairing him with Mady or Dort, or to spell either for a few minutes. I thought that was a bit strange after a lot of good minutes he put in last season.

His problem was 51 fouls in 196 minutes.

Our problem was defense and offense, so what's a few more fouls?

We congratulate donors for giving $1M to a football or basketball player when they could give that to cure cancer or give 50 brilliant minds a full ride academic scholarship. Hard to argue those priorities, but we do that without thinking.

His priorities are not mine, but he gets to decide how to live his best life. For some people, playing (and getting to actually play) college basketball is priceless and a dream to fulfill over all else. He gets to choose how to live his best life.

Gus entered the portal as a grad transfer according to reports, so no need to throw shade on Queens or say he missed his chance for a Cal, I mean Berkeley, education.

Those were mostly shooting fouls. Some of them and-ones. Giving the other team two free throws every time they have the ball isn't helping the defense. It also puts them in the bonus which makes everyone else have to play more carefully.

That's a weird angle to focus on. I don't think preventing teams from getting in the bonus was a thing. I think the bigger problem was actually allowing shots from the field to go in at a high rate.

I can understand that seeming weird but it does show up in the stats. What doesn't show up in stats is I remember all kinds of opposing bigs scoring easily over Larson. IMHO his offense was OK but his defense was terrible.

On our women's team Michelle Onyiah had a fouling problem but the results were different. She was a really good player at both ends but fouls limited her playing time. Larson didn't play enough for that to matter, in the 23-24 season he averaged only 7 minutes a game and fouled out only once.

Good luck, Gus, I wish him the best. When he got on the floor he played with grit and did his job, that's all I expect of any Cal player. Don't understand the negativity displayed above, save it for someone who actually deserves it.

Yes I am a fan. I met him quickly at the Cal alumni pregame mixer at Pauley last year. I asked him if he was OK from that dunk on him by Caleb Love of Arizona . He gave me a quick laugh which I appreciated.

I don't mean to be negative. It's nice to root for a guy who has some talent, plays with 100% effort, and gets his Cal degree. I never met him but he also seems like a good dude. My comments were an effort to explain why he didn't get more playing time.
