Anyone have any information about how season ticket renewals are going? I'm hearing that it's a complete disaster, partly due to the requirement for a (new?) fee that is about 140% of the ticket price itself. Two chairback seats cost $1,818 for the season, but the additional renewal fee is $2,600. Add $380 for parking, and the total is $4,798. Is the Cal AD actually TRYING to drive away fans from Haas? Do they realize that our men's basketball team has been worse than mediocre for at least 6 seasons now?

The fee is a required donation.it is puzzling why they are doing this given the state of Cal basketball. Also puzzling is disallowing your donation to count for both football and basketball.

That being said , I paid it as it is one of my favorite things to do and I need a seat back.iIs it over priced? Yes. I suspect many wont renew or will downgrade. As for the parking, come early and park on the street or use oneof church lots. that $380 will get you underhill as they claim the University has reduced the available parking in closer lots . I i had rsf for years until last year. They seem to be doing everything they can to Reduce attendance . When you have a bad product, even though you need the money, raising prices is plain stupid. We need a Ron Rivera for basketball.

markeisha gotta 2 prong approach to ensuring the cal men's basketball program is dead last #18 (and not #17 like last season) in acc attendance:

1) price out the aging loyal longtime seatback buyers which is dwindling every season while doing next to nothing (other than a couple of emails that get deleted) to build a younger fanbase
2) don't offer FREE tixs to all berkeley students in order to create loud gameday energy & build a pipeline to future season tix buyers/donors

My basketball seats do not require a donation, so I'm not aware of that fee, but I did find the renewals for both men's and woman's basketball to be disorganized this year. I didn't receive any email confirmation for either for several days after I purchased my renewals, then when the WBB renewal confirmation email finally came it had incorrect and incomplete information. Hopefully they'll get things straightened out before the season starts. I heard from one friend last week who had not even been notified that the MBB renewals had started.

I was shocked by the cost of our chair back renewal. We also pay for stadium club seats in football. I had multiple conversations with the premium seating team, and said that the changes should have been pro-actively discussed with the donors in advance of football renewals.

I think that it is a good thing that Cal now requires donations from season ticketholders to be made to the sport to which those seats relate. Otherwise, you have one sport depriving another sport of donations (in essence subsidizing) to allow for some much needed support for the program that is providing the season of hopefully entertaining games.

Bad time to do this. The product is not getting better. Once there is a winning season, then maybe.

When I learned that a separate donation was required for my stadium club football seats and chairback basketball seats, I decided not to renew my football seats and to give basketball one more year, since it took me decades to move up to the very nice seats I have for basketball games. I asked my ticket representative why they were uncoupling the donations, and he said it was at Mark Madsen's request, so more money would be directed to the basketball program.

I non renewed the football a few years ago but kept the basketball. I enjoy it more. Plus I can buy the few football games I attend from Stub hub or friends.

Well, the new required annual seat donation of $1,300 per seat for basketball (in addition to the cost of the premium chair back seats) is costing Cal a loyal 27 year season ticket holder. I won't be renewing my season tickets. I'm also a season ticket holder with 2 fully paid seats in the Field Club for football (Founders Club member), so I'll just focus on football. I suspect I won't be the only chairback seat holder who throws in the towel. Big mistake by Cal, especially doing this when the team sucks.

They should have loweredbthe price of chairbacks in Haas. Something like this. Maybe to entice people from the cheap seats to buy a chairback. " Special offer this year only. Upgrade to chair-back for 50% off. Existing chairback holders get a 10% off required donation for this year only . Younget someonenused to comfort andbthen maybe they renew at full price nextbyear

My understanding is if you PAID IN FULL your FB seats you are grandfathered in for not having to pay the BB donation

There might have been a date cutoff but you might want to check with your ticket rep

Would be great to keep you as a BB fan

I happily donate the required $20,000 for my 2 courtside seats, plus another $5,000 or more annually to help provide Mark with the NIL funds to recruit a compeitive team to take us out of the cellar, as well as pay $10,000 for those seats. Needless to say, my courtside seatmates are doing likewise (in most cases being far more generous than I can afford as a retiree living off his savings). When I had chairback seats, I donated far more than is being asked today and also was funding two Stadium Club A seats. If you want to enjoy good seats to watch Duke, NC, Louisville, ND, SMU etc this forthcoming season, it seems only fair that you should donate to support the team that will entertain you at Haas

Nope. I have had multiple conversations with my Premium Ticket Rep and with a Cal Athletic Fund Rep, and they no longer exempt fully-paid football premium seat holders (ESP) from the BB Required Seat Donation (RSD). This is the first year for that new policy. They have also removed the free parking privilege for basketball premium seat holders. Frankly, the Cal athletic department is doing everything possible to turn off loyal season ticket holders for basketball and football at a time that they should be doing everything in their power to hold onto current season ticket holders and attract new ones. After all, typical attendance is 3,000 to 4,000 at Haas and around 30,000 to 35,000 at Memorial Stadium. It's very sad.

Good for you. Hope you and the other 3,000 people in Haas enjoy the games. I'll just watch on TV.

Thank you Harky and yes - the rest of the courtside seat holders pay the $10k/seat donation and the $5K/seat ticket cost, plus additionally contribute to the Basketball Excellence Fund. This extra seat cost, helps with several program critical costs (NIL payments, Key staff positions salaries to be at least somewhat competitive in the ACC, recruiting costs, Haas Arena upgrades, Analytic software costs etc. Yes the team needs to win to bring in/retain loyal fans, but the cost of attending the games all in, is still a reasonable cost, when compared to other popular sporting events around the Bay Area. The schedule this season once conference play commences, will be very exciting to see live - since high quality tournament level teams will be on display. For me, it's where I am fine splurging for personal enjoyment, admiration for overall solid college basketball play and when the games are competitive, a truly fun experience/environment occurs. And live attendance cannot be replicated via TV. Thus while it's not always easy to write large checks, the monies spent are crucial to building a competitive team.

I think my confusion is the difference between buying club season tickets vs paying ESP in full

It seems only ESP members who paid in full by the end of 2024 still don't pay the BB donations but club season ticket holders do

No. I paid for my ESP seats in full in 2011. For the first time I now have to pay the new annual fee to retain my basketball chairbacks in section 2. Basketball has now been uncoupled from football.

The uncoupling occurred in order to allow the MBB program to receive some much needed financial support from its premium seat holders and to have each of the FB and MBB programs have an equal ability to raise funds from the persons enjoying attending their games. As Gen4 accurately has noted, it takes a lot of funds to cause an ACC competitive team to be molded by Mark. Mark is doing an admirable job with what he has available, but he badly needs more financial support to pay his staff and players, to have AI software analytical tools, etc. I have suggested to give priority seating for the high profile ACC games (Duke, NC, Clemson, ND, Louisville, SMU, Stanford) to fans who purchase a package of those games bundled with some non-conference games, prior to putting the highly desired tickets on sale on an individual game basis. That way there will be more fans in attendance for the non-conference games than might otherwise be the case. I also favor deeply discounted, or even free, tickets for students to make Haas rock (revenues from student ticket sales barely move the needle anyways).

I understand. Unfortunately, however, the net result is likely to be lower attendance, especially if the team is mediocre again. Clearly, teams like Duke and NC, and ND are good draws, but not so much if the game is likely to be a blowout by 20 to 30 points.

I do not see blow outs with the decent and much deeper team that Mark has assembled and even possibly an upset or two at Haas, IMO lots of fans of collegiate basketball in the Bay Area will drool to see Duke, Louisville and NC
