Kevin Johnson - why the F is he not our GM?

I want a new thread on this. Has Kevin Johnson been offered the GM job? Cause while there are dream candidates who MIGHT be better they also have pretty solid jobs elsewhere. Meanwhile the ex mayor of Sacramento doesn't really seem like he is doing much. A 4 time NBA all star, he would make for an uber front guy for the program.

Now I get that politics is a dirty business (as is running a charter system in this state) but generally speaking KJ would be the kind of jump start we could use.

Think this has a lot to do with it:

That's was my first thought, too. That said, I really like KJ. He was one of my favorite non-Laker NBA players (same with Jason Kidd) even before I matriculated at Cal.

On a tangent, I met him briefly at a political event in Sacramento about 15 years ago. It was brief, but I remember thinking he hadn't aged since his NBA career ended.

If Cal can't attract Shareef Abdur-Raheem to be basketball GM, KJ would be a great alternative (assuming he were interested). Having had a career in politics, KJ has got to be familiar with bureaucracy and how to deal with bureaucrats. He'd make an excellent GM for that reason, alone.

As someone who absolutely adored KJ, it wasn't one person, it wasn't "politics". It wasn't adults. It isn't happening.

Just to be clear, a sexual assault case has nothing to do with politics, unless you are saying that this (and several other allegations about how he conducts himself in the workplace) are all manufactured to damage him politically.
I know some people love KJ, but let's not turn a blind eye… he's not the guy.

Correct. Plus you have to be "in the game" to stay abreast of whats going on. Rivera had that in football. It was his career. KJ hasn't been active in basketball for a long time AFAIK.

If Sean Marks ever leaves the Nets then he would be the guy for the job.

The man was extraordinarily popular in Sacto, won by like 57%+ as mayor two consecutive terms despite these allegations. His original sins were that he defeated the teachers unions (arguably one of the most powerful and menacing orgs in this country) by way of converting his own high school into a charter school thus kicking union teachers out. His wife a former supe of schools and education reformer held/fostered the same beliefs and pursuits and she has been called his "fixer." After all these years not a single indictment with not to mention an accuser recanted. The extent of these accusations is "touching/ fondling" (really? The classic ambiguous assault). The most publicized was by a 16 year old who claims he showered with her when he was 29 at his guest house not intercourse of any kind but clearly painting a weird picture. Here is the kicker, no crim charges despite full investigation BUT she and her mother filed a "civil" case and negotiated a settlement of $230K with NDA included. She netted $92K in a trust, after legal fees and "payment to her mother." Yeah its sad he has this in his past but me personally this appears like politically and financially motivated dirt.

Popularity and a "she's in it for the money" defense is not evidence of innocence, and allegations (even multiple) are not evidence of guilt.
The point is that the truth doesn't matter for a hire, it's about whether it's worth Cal taking a gamble between "he's never done anything" and "he showered with a 16 year old." Not smart to lay your chips on that 50-50 (plus the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
I shouldn't even have to say this, but yes, really, touching without consent is legally (and morally) assault.

I come down on the sodr thay he was fully investigated , not charged and made powerful enemies (labor) in sacto that had all the reasons to go after him. Of not kj the poibt remains we need a gm who can connect with bigger donor to unlock$ needed to be competitive in one of the top bb conferenes in the country.

Not evidence of innocence??? He. . . WE . . ARE ALL INNOCENT. . . until proven guilty, not even indicted. This is what the stain of accusation does WHEN COMBINED WITH an all too easily persuadable/ willing public. My point about his popularity was to show how hard the opposition would have to attack him to take him down.

" …..and allegations (even multiple) are not evidence of guilt."

But in California a plaintiff has a shot at getting evidence of "multiples" into evidence as proof of pattern of conduct (like modus operandi in a criminal case). Any experienced defense attorney knows if evidence of other victims gets into evidence in a jury trial, your client can break out his checkbook and start writing lots of zeros.

Trump got kicked in the creek by a jury in no small part because E. Jean Carroll's legal team successfully introduced testimony from two other women, Jessica Leeds and Natasha Stoynoff, who alleged past sexual assaults by Donald Trump, under Federal Rule of Evidence 415, which allows for evidence of other sexual assaults in civil cases of this nature to show a pattern or bolster credibility, with the trial court and appeals court finding these rulings appropriate.

*Clarence Thomas would never have been confirmed for the SCOTUS had it not been for Confirmation Hearing Chair Joe Biden refusing to allow other victims of harassment to testify at the hearing.

He clearly can raise money - for both a charter network and his political campaigns. To be honest far more track record with asking and getting $$$ than Ron.
