Background:

Earlier in the offseason, the Celtics aggressively shopped Brown as the centerpiece alongside two first-round picks in an attempt to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks. When Giannis was instead traded to the Miami Heat, the relationship between Brown and the Celtics was reportedly damaged beyond repair.

Tension over the 1A Role: With Jayson Tatum sidelined for most of the 2025-26 season recovering from a torn Achilles, Brown thrived as the undisputed No. 1 option, averaging a career-high 28.7 points and finishing sixth in MVP voting. He openly stated on Twitch that it was his "favorite year" of basketball, even after Boston historically blew a 3-1 series lead to the 76ers in the first round of the playoffs. This created ongoing tension regarding his role and future expectations alongside Tatum.

There has always been an underbelly of fan here that never liked him from day 1 when drafted. Many jumped on bandwagon after Title/MVP but his comments post beat down from the Sixers was his undoing here.

don't get me going okaydo. The JB haters really got mad back when he suggested that RE Brokers were steering him to certain neighborhoods or something to that effect where "he would be comfortable". Boston fans and here in Portland get touchy when you dare suggest such a thing. For 2 years one of the clowns on the radio wanted to trade him for Bradley Beal (sp?) as they wanted another "super star" (pronounced stah) to pair with Tatum. I can't wait to listen to the raidio this am and hear Stevens get absolutely trashed. He could do no wrong …well until now. Paul George? When the Giannis deal came about it was like chum in the water. The Beown bashing raised to a fever pitch and now he's gone.
I never rooted for the Celtics but I'm a dubs fan where rumor has it Green is making way for Brony Sr. Crazy

I never rooted for the Celts with or without JB.I always rooted for the Sixer's since I was a kid bc of Doc J, cheered loudly for them with AI. I still root for them to beat anyone in the East but glad the Knicks won it all bc I'm a surrogate a upstate NYer. In short, go Sixer's. Get Bron. Win a Title . and uh, JB have a convo with Dr J so he can teach you some humility and the power of silence.

This is an interesting psychological phenomenon. People identify with groups at an early age and it's as simple as a symbol, a color, or an elephant or donkey.

They stay true to such affiliations even if situations of what the symbol represents change.

I grew up going to Cal football tailgates. Rooting for Cal reminds me of the good feelings with my grandparents, parents, aunt, all Berkeley graduates. The Play in 82, I was there.

JB is a fun guy to root for!!

My love for Cal far surpasses my love for any pro team including the Lakers and the Dodgers. After I graduated from Cal my friends and I had Lakers season tickets for three Showtime Championship years. There was no team I hated more than the Celtics. Yet, I overcame my lifelong hatred for the Celtics when JB went there. To the point I even rooted for them (as I did the year with Leon Powe). Now I get to hate them again,

I was a Cal fan from age 5 or so, I had no other choice. Dad was a Cal grad. I was also a Celtic fan almost from the get go, especially when they landed local guys like KC Jones and Bill Russell. Globetrotters my other favorite. When the Warriors came to SF, I was an instant fan. Wilt Chamberlain, Nate Thurmond, Rick Barry. I considered Nate Thurmond a friend. Then the NBA title, their first, in 1974, or was it '75? Charley Johnson, Jamal Wilkes, George Johnson, Clifford Ray, Butch Beard, and the Hopper. I was a Dodgers fan early, and was disappointed when I heard the Dodgers were moving to LA, and the Giants were moving to SF. I saw Willie Mays play one game, and after that, I became a Giants fan forever. I remember one game at Candlestick, the worst ball park ever, where it was foggy, windy, and cold. Against the Cubs In extra innings, Willie comes to the plate. He knows he can not hit a home run to win this thing. He lays down a bunt. Then he steals 2nd, steals 3rd, steals home --- game over. I never hated anybody, or any team, or any political party. It's not a good look. As Satchel Paige would say, "It's not good for the digestion - it jangles the juices."

I disagree with you here, Tom. Team sports are a great equalizer. They often humble outstanding players who realize they can't win the big games or championships without their teammates. They have to help them and vice versa. Team sports break down barriers they never thought would be broken. Team sports is a competition where players who happen to be Democrats and some who happen to be Republicans can be on the same team and can come to realize that if they help each other to be successful, that could, in turn, enable the team to win the game or the championship. If you want to root for people, then root for tennis players, or golfers, and leave team sports to people who appreciate that working together to win gives success and lasting pleasure. Individual sports have their place, and their value, but for building better social skills, character, and success going forward in life, I recommend team sports.

They still only have one ball, right? Jaylen may have gone from second to third banana, will be fascinating
