Interesting pre-game comments from Greg Kempe. (Including a sorta comparison btwn the Bears and UCLA.) He seems like a really cool guy.

Thanks to icecream12345 for posting this link on the Oakland game thread.

Hmmm and yet I wish we could remodel. As much as I love Haas, its in the bottom half of Pac12 arenas.

I don't have any complaints. It's a great place to watch a college basketball game.

Acoustics suck;desperately need acoustic tiles and state of the art sound system. Haas needs a remodel; John Kasser did not know what he was doing.

Acoustic tiles? It was actually designed to be loud.

It was designed to be CHEAP!Kasser saved 1 million bucks by not putting them in, so you have an echo chamber that makes the PA system difficult to hear. THERE'S A REASON PROFESSIONAL ARENAS USE ACOUSTIC TILES! Furd, udub. USC and UCLA all used them; it's called having quality sound, not an echo chamber! The integrity of the arena was compromised with this cheapskate move! With smaller crowds in other sports like volleyball and women's basketball it's a joke.

I have a better idea, why don't you start being a Bear Backer! Your insight that it was "designed to be loud" is really insightful. Actually, the lack of design makes it like a tin box.:newnana:

Say what? First I didn't say anything about it's design! Second, I probably have been a Bear backer before you were born, probably before your parents were born. Haas Pavilion for the most part was upgraded by the generosity from the Haas family, thus the name on the building. If you think it's a tin box then you donate $50 million for an upgrade and then you can call it "Barabbas Pavilion"!

Bingo - it's all about the array. I produce many events here in NYC in marble buildings with terrible acoustics, but with a properly wrung out array we make the audio great without acoustic tiles or any other changes. In 2011, I was tasked with staging Kanye West and Jay-Z in an abandoned power plant in Austin Texas for the SxSW Music Conference and Festival. It was, for all intents and purposes, a giant cement bunker with terrible acoustics. I couldn't use any baffles or fabric as that would have compromised the look. We made it work. It's all about having the right array.

Makes sense. Please communicate this to our facilities people!

there are just a few things I would like to change in Haas:

- move the Cal souvenir sales back to the original store (it deserves a real store location, not just a roped off area)

- put in a few deluxe boxes at the top. I know there is no access to luxury boxes at the top, but we don't need the capacity, so reducing the seats is not a problem, and I would think the luxury boxes would bring in more corporate money as companies like to buy them to bring in their customers/clients

- improve the Cal sports history displays. some stuff behind glass cases, but it could certainly use an upgrade and I don't think it would cost too much money. Our past stars like Kevin Johnson, Jason Kidd, and players from other sports such as VB deserve a nicer display

If I was changing something about Haas, I'd repaint the bear at mid court to blue and gold, like the ones on the Cal tee shirts
