How so? Monty gets paid (a lot) based on results, which includes among other things properly motivating the team. I don't think calling out players is fair (however true) because that's Monty's job. It's his job to get them to execute his plan for winning. That's what coaching is. There's plenty of blame to go around but Monty is ultimately accountable, as it should be. I don't see how you can make an argument that he had a good year as a coach but couldn't get his players to listen. Now that's ludicrous!

So, following your logic, every professor you have ever had has been ultimately responsible for your performance or lack thereof? At what point do you stop blaming others and put the onus on the people who are actually playing the game?
Monty gets paid to coach basketball, prepare game plans, and teach the X's and O's used in carrying that out. He has well-established his credentials for getting results with varying levels of talent. While at Cal, his teams have always been competitive in the PAC-12. Despite their lackluster results in the latter half of the conference season, they still managed to earn a #4 seed in the postseason tournament. What more would you have him do? Water board or publicly flog his players? I would be willing to bet you were one of the first to blame him for pushing Alan Crabbe last year. You can berate and harangue players or handle them with kid gloves, but ultimately, their performance results are up to THEM, as your exam results were on YOU.
In my time following and rooting for the Bears, we've had our share of terrible coaches and Monty is not among them.
