+1. The moral grandstanding here is seriously out of control. A rumor is passed (albeit unsubstantiated, but that's kind of the definition of a rumor) and suddenly everyone is outraged. Nobody is saying propping up a member of their own ethnic/ethnoreligious group is a "Jewish" thing or making whatever other blanket statements regarding Jewish people. Can someone please enlighten me on how this is anti-Semitic?

Furthermore, lets not pretend like this sort of thing doesn't happen in the real world. There are plenty of people out there who support others on the basis of religious affiliation, ethnicity, race, gender, etc...

Without rancor: It's anti-Semitic because it suggests one of the negative stereotypes about Jews, that, as a small minority, they unduly control (to the detriment of the folk) solely because of the power of their money (expressed in a backroom, conspiratorial way - remember the Protocols of the Elders of Zion); and it doesn't take much to blow it out from there.
