Thanks to this board, I've learned that Cal turns the ball over too much and that they don't get enough assists. Maybe someone can explain to me how we lead the conference in assist to turnover ratio by a large margin:

You read that here? We had one game where we turned the ball over WAY too much which raised some concerns but overall this is as expected. A team with a lot of perimeter players and ball handlers almost all of whom have meaningful experience and who are selfless like this bunch will likely lead the P12 in this category.

I think he's referring to SFCity, who still mourns the decline of the set shot, the underhanded free throw and the 2-handed chest pass.

You forgot the bounce pass, the hard pick, the standard hook shot, and the easy layup after an assist. Gosh, how I would have loved to palm, travel, and charge, like you youngsters.

And a fan of a college team that shoots free throws at 62.7% should not be ridiculing the underhanded free throw. You could blindfold Rick Barry and I'd bet he would shoot them at over 80% with an underhand stroke.

Absolutely correct about Barry. Of course, Wilt Chamberlain shooting underhanded would be lucky to hit 33%...

btw, I'm not much younger than you, and I agree about palming nowadays. Of course, the "hard pick" is a foul in today's P12...

LOL. Good comeback, SFC!
I love the new palming, by the way. That was the best.

BTW: I once played (multiple times) pickup ball at A.U. in DC with a talented, quick, strong kid who had only 1 hand (two arms, one hand, so the second wrist could help with a shot, but not grip the ball for dribbling or shooting).
He palmed the ball on occasion, as you can imagine, but sometimes it was so bad - he'd turn the ball over like he was going up for a shot, and then I'd get up on him, but he'd flip the ball over and down again as if his dribble was still alive and blow past me for the layup. I was like, "Come on, man!" But what could I do? I mean, the guy was good with just one hand! I later saw him on a DC News report profiling high school kids, and I thought, "crap, he was a high schooler! What do the refs in that league do?" Because if called properly he'd have 10 palming calls against him every game. They probably just gave him a hall pass, too.

I hate the palming...basically cuz I was never able to get away with it in my day.
