Does anyone know if the stipends resulting from the O'Bannon law suit are being paid to athletes now or when they will kick in??

idk either anyone have some info ? will both basketball and football get the same amounts ?

Latest per AD as of a few months ago: every athlete on every team will get the same stipend, which is consistent with the way Power Conference schools are handling stipends (other than Furd).

The O'Bannon case is on appeal, so no payment for image. Further, the NCAA passed a rule just permitting stipends for the "cost of attendance", whatever that means. Its all being sorted out. The athletes are being paid, but I don't know the amount. Accoriding to an article I read, the highest I believe is Penn State at $4,788 per athlete. For the record, Furd does not believe in paying stipends. Texas is on the other side of the equation and wanted to pay $10K/player, which included payment for image, but I don't think they can provide that large an amount under the NCAA rules.

Furd was the one dissent from the approval of the NCAA rule permitting stipends for cost of attendance.

This is a changing situation so I won't be surprised if things have already changed.

Will be an interesting issue to follow for years.
If all athletes at all schools are going to make the same amount, then I wonder how many people are going to try out for weak sports teams.
Or will football and basketball eventually end up paying out more.
Will this put an end to the pressure on the NCAA to pay their performers?
Or is it just the beginning and we see the dollar amount climb have a steady rate as years go by?

One thing that would most definitely cause a steep increase, IMO, would be institution-determined stipends (instead of NCAA-determined fixed stipends). There would be bidding wars for sure. But I hope that is not on the table.

They should be paid enough to pay for a good size tattoo every month.

Furd president got all huffy when the proposal came through and threatened to drop IA altogether. Not a peep since then, however.

Where do you think Cal athletes(football/basketball) rank in the Pac12? Remember cost of living in this region...

Those in charge should be ashamed

If someone doesn't fix this issue might as well figure out another way to pay for CMS cause there will not be a competitive football team playing there for long

The fix to end cal football and basketball has been put into place

What is the problem(s) that you see?

Stipends ... Cal can Not cut corners on this issue

In short I don't think it has to be a top ranked stipend allotment but living in Berkeley is costly

I have seen many players tweet about cost of living vs allotments they receive my take thEy are not too happy about it

Wish the conference had one set amount for every revenue sport

Do all student athletes get a stipend at Cal?

If yes that would explain a lot of issues in terms of school allotted amounts

I think you should just pay the revenue sports athletes.
Collective bargaining within NCAA teams to make the pay amount equal so as to create parity in competition.

It's a business.. Run it like one.

Well said.

This suit also killed the EA sport NCAA football and basketball video game titles.

So all athletes on all teams that are official teams, so rugby gets zero but field hockey and swimming get the same as football and basketball?

When black guys get tattoos, why don't they use white ink?

You'll get over it. The question was "Student/Athlete Stipends" not Student/Athlete Stipends at Cal. These Student/Athletes going in know that they are getting a free education and no compensation. Kids are knocking down doors to try and and get into UCB. BTW if you took out a student loan to cover your tuition how long did it take for you to pay it off? The S/A has nothing to pay.
