He looks like a great 3 point shooter with a very good handle. Maybe a taller version of Jerome Randle? Sure hope so!

Wow I was just on his twitter page, he was retweeting Cal stuff for awhile now. So guess he really wanted to come, that's awesome.

Welcome to CAL!
And thanks for announcing today.
Between this and the CAL women's awesome game this afternoon, I'm starting to shake the nausea from last night

Good question. I always thought she was part of the academic support team.

Not as of now. Bowman's still part of the picture.

Here's Coleman's commitment story: http://bearinsider.com/news/story.php?article=2009

Could be a really nice addition with his mentality and skill set replacing Wallace next season. He'll have 3 to play 3.

Good get at a priority need. If he played a year at a JC, wouldn't he have 4 to play 3? Did FAU not release him?

Status on Yurtseven or a PF?
MoragaBear

You may be right on 4/3 vs. 3/3 but I'd heard 3/3.

Haven't asked about Yurtseven recently.

Expect to lose jaylen or Ivan then?

They always thought Ivan and Jaylen were possible one and dones. This looks like they may expect roster turnover elsewhere on the team. 2 pgs to replace one with Hickman already committed for 2017 and continuing to recruit other top 2017 PGs like Brown

77% FTs!!! Huge improvement already over Wallace and Singer. Fantastic if the pg handling the ball especially at the end of games can hit the crucial FTs.

Coleman replaces Wallace with a two season recruiting class offset from Hickman (Singer). Still likely need to replace Jaylen and/or Rabb in 2016 and definitely Bird, Mathews, Domingo, and RMB in 2017. 2017 team could get by without another SF (Bird, Domingo) with no Jaylen, so PF with or without Rabb is the more pressing need.

Technically no room at the moment, so Bowman would only makes sense if Rabb stays and Bowman's significantly better than potential 2017 guard options and more impactful than any 2016 PFs. Can't see room in the manger for another 2016 guard if Yurtseven were truly in the mix. Rabb, K2, and Yurtseven would make for an unconventional 5/4 rotation, but complementary SF wouldn't need to rebound much.

Hey MB, what's the word on Coleman's relatively uninspiring other offers? He seems like a really talented player. He fully qualified out of HS. It doesn't make sense. Do you have any insight here?
MoragaBear

Coleman's game wasn't as developed in high school and 1st year jc's are often off the radar with both scouting services and programs since they're usually not eligible to transfer for another year.

Not much not to like. Good length and strength for a 1, good all-around game with his strong range and ability to take it strong to the bucket or pull up and pop, dish or kick it out. Really like that he's a vocal leader with a passion for D, too.

Looking at his videos, he looks like a really good player. A really good outside shooter, which is the most important aspect of today's game. He also can finish at the rim. He kind of looks like Tyler Dorsey with a better handle. At 6'4" now, you would think he would be a 4 star, if still a HS senior.

Coleman doesn't need to be an immediate savior or compete with Sam as the 2017 starter. Just needs to be able to play 10-15 MPG next season and compete for PG starter as a junior and senior. Anything above that is gravy. Chauca wouldn't be able to do that.

Not an explosive, fast twitch athlete. Jordan Mathews is a good comparison in this regard. Decent handle and will use the left but doesn't finish well with the left - very right handed offensively. Got some strength and not afraid to mix it up at either end. Hustles, high motor defensive player. Best part of his game is a solid release on his jumper. Not super quick but not slow either and good form. Don't see him beating folks off the bounce regularly. Best case feels like a smart, tough kid who can shoot and handle it a bit as a backup PG.

Agreed. It's tough to get realistic evaluations off of highlight videos, but what does stick out is a lack of plus athleticism. Kind of reminds me a bit of Singer's highlight vids actually.

Yeah. Evaluating from highlights is tough. He does seem to have some nice moves to get to and finish at the rim. He looks like a really good shooter. Did not see many passes. Still think he looks a lot like Dorsey at Oregon. I hope he is as good, or better.

I wouldn't expect him to be like Dorsey. Dorsey is an NBA-prospect and we can hope this guy becomes a contributor to the program. Maybe an Emerson Murray that pans out.

Those were high school highlights. His game's progressed a lot since then.

Do we have any JC highlights? I thought he looked shorter than 6'4" in those video clips.

Apparently those were HS videos when he was 6'1". He is now almost 6'4" and may be still growing. That will make a big difference in his game.

His assist numbers and ability to finish were much more limited in high school. His game and frame have grown a lot.

Haven't been able to track down any jc film but I'll ask him if there's any available.
