Talk about dead wrong in public...

Over and over and over again. They don't play defense! They can't win in the playoffs! They can't play half court offense!

Riiiiggghhhtttt.... What team was he watching?

Probably watched Kobe score 60...on like 55 shots.

22/50 is not terrible, but when I told my cousin earlier that Kobe would shoot 50 times tonight, I was somewhat sarcastic.

Most field goal attempts in an NBA game in at least 30 years. I was entertained in that final 4th quarter, but then again I'm a Laker fan who hasn't had much to cheer about for a few years.

The one Charles Barkley was watching I guess.

I thought the thing to do was watch the Lakers pre-game speeches and gifts (where was the motorcycle or the wheelbarrow full of CD's - not to mention a Purple and Gold Tesla Mamba Model) and first few minutes until the excitement left the building. Well, the pregame wasn't so good and Kobe was a sluggish 0-5 out of the gate.

Game over - switch to Warriors.
Holy crap, Curry had already made 2 of his required 8 3's, and then he launched 3 straight, one DEEEEP, one contested, and the other super quickly released around a screen to get open for a sliver. Game ON.

I calculated that he needed 41 to average 30.00 for the season, a fact the announcers ignored until he got within 4 (I think they didn't think it possible and wanted to put a damper on it.)

The 4th qtr of the W's game was ordinary, as Curry didn't play and the reserves closed out the 20 point lead for the win.

So, imagine my surprise this morning to learn that Kobe score SIXTY! Wow.

He scored 15 in the 3rd, and 25 in the 4th. Kobe was on down the stretch, but was just the 4th person to put up 5 shots in the history of the NBA.

Kobe shot 22 of 50 overall (16-29 FG, 6-21 3FG) and 10-12 FT's.
Kobe had 4 Rebs and 4 Assists.
Kobe played 42 mins.

Curry shot 15-24 (5-5 FG, 10-19 3FG) and 6-6FT's.
Curry had 4 Rebs and 6 Assists.
Curry played 30 mins.

Kobe missed more shots than Curry even attempted. Yet, Kobe had only 14 more points.
If Curry shot as much as Kobe did, he'd have ended up with 95 points.

I have to wonder, if I watched the game, how many times he was perhaps unchallenged on his close FG attempts, and how many of those FT's were well earned as opposed to ref sympathy calls.

...Kobe was polarizing. Mamba out!

I'd say that if the W's win the title, they go down as one of the all-time great teams, no matter what happens next year.
But if they lose, they will have to win another title in the next couple years to be thought of as well.
I'd really hope the do it.

It IS hard to fathom. The warriors were SO bad for SO long... It's doesn't make sense.

for GSW, the last few games of season with something on line serves as good tune up for the play off run and defense of their crown.

Spurs away game W, helped GSW get that one off their list.. (win at Spurs home court) as well as take 3 to 1 season record vs Spurs..

Memphis..playoff atmosphere/energy level/media attention..

a few days to rest up..and take on Rockets... in round 1/game 1.

Iggy/Festus back....

Found 3rd big in Anderson Varejao for playoff run.. (insurance)

I fear that teams in the playoffs will rough or worse, injure, Curry and that will seal their fate. I guess that could have happened last year, too.

Curry's shooting has been incredible.
I gotta serious consider him over Oscar or Magic as my starting PG on my all-time fantasy team.

PG: Steph/Oscar/Magic
SG: Jordan
SF: Lebron
PF: Russell
C: Kareem/Wilt

Sub1: Kobe

Gotta have outside shooting in today's game! Magic did not, and Oscar was before the line was drawn.

I watched the Lakers game.

Kobe missed his first 5 shots. After that, he actually shot pretty well (22-45, almost 50%, mostly from outside). Curry would not score 95, because if you take 50 shots, a lot of them are going to be tough shots. Kobe taking those shots was the only way his team was going to win that game. And he was money down the stretch, outscoring Utah by himself in the 4th quarter for the come from behind win. Utah is a pretty solid team and they really wanted that win to get to 41-41 on the season. Kobe's points were not freebies, Utah even doubled him at times. And a 37 year old guy with a broken down body playing 42 minutes, including the entire second half? Wow. He had a behind the back hockey assist and a pretty spectacular block as well. There is no way to diminish his performance, it was epic. And probably the most spectacular finish to a career in sports history.

Hold on now, injecting some historical perspective:

PG: Magic/Oscar
SG: Jordan/J. West/Kobe
SF: E. Baylor/Dr. J/L. Bird
PF: Russell/K. Malone
C: Wilt/Kareem/Shaq

Obviously, a couple of guys out of position, but a pretty decent roster. Too early to include guys like Steph and LeBron, IMO.

Agree on outside shooting, and I will go with "The Logo" himself, Jerry West, for that. Most of his points were from 3 point land, but they only counted them as 2.

Thanks much for that perspective/recap.
I'll have to catch it on espn3 replay online.

By the way, here is a nice ranking of all time players, per my other post:

This is fun and like this list. However, putting together the best team, doesn't necessarily mean putting together the best players or best at each position (especially with the evolution of positionless basketball). For that reason, I would reconsider both Steph - since he adds such a UNIQUE dimension with his shooting (not just range, but selection, speed of release, effectively unguardable) as well as LeBron (along with Magic - really the only two players that can legitimately ANY position at NBA+ level). Not sure who I would pull from CalEnviroLaw's list, though - other than Shaq, who despite his impressive physical attributes and smile, did not dedicate himself to, nor achieve the skill level of the rest on this list (I always wondered what if he did...).

Make of this what you will, but Draymond Green not only can but consistently does play all five positions, all of them at an extraordinarily high level; and, considering (a) his relatively extreme youth, (b) the fact that he has already "improved" way beyond anyone's projected potential level in such a short time, and (c) the major "X"-Factor that he brings to the Court (and, undeniably, to the performance of the team) on every possession, I would not rule him out for eventual membership in that Pantheon - his relative unheralded status coming into the Association notwithstanding to the contrary -- a true inspiration in every sense of the word, and an example to which young players can actually aspire, because it is so clearly based on hard work, grit, and stick-to-it-iveness, as opposed to gobs of God-given talent.

You're thinking here like a Cal fan. At Cal, we're not allowed to have nice things. This restriction does not apply to the Warriors, as evidenced by the title already won last year. Not to mention the treasure trove of records this year, including the 24-0 start, the home win streak (over two seasons), 73 wins, and everything Steph Curry (2 straight MVP's, 400+ treys, scoring title, 90/50/40 shooting, etc.)

Steph is going to be fine, and the Warriors will win another trophy. Go W's!

I agree and gave him some serious consideration alongside LeBron and Magic as an all position player! For me the jury is still out on him and almost every other active player (but IMO - both Steph and LeBron have proven themselves as active players). Also, Draymond is usually NOT the focus of the opposing team. If he was, he may not be as effective. All of the others on the list were the focus of all their opponents and still thrived.

I still think he is great and don't mean to belittle what Draymond has done - but just giving some reasons why I did not include him on an all time list.

The talking heads were saying, before the game, that the 73-9 wouldn't be diminished if the Ws don't win it all. Like heck...

The record would still stand, but it'd be like when the Pats went 16-0 but then got upset in the Super Bowl: HUGE diminish.

I TOTALLY don't blame them for wanting to set this record: There's an NBA Champ every year, but this, if they do it, will be ONE for the ages... But they have to finish it out now. Fortunately, outside of an unexpected injury or two, I don't see another team stopping them. Popovich probably has a trick or two up his sleeve, but not enough.

It is amazing, how they've gone from the Old Warriors to the New Warriors. A fair amount of it is good fortune: Steph being better than anybody even dreamed he could be (and staying healthy) and Draymond being way, way better. After 1977-2013, though, we were due our share of good fortune.

Yes, there have been some other great ones. Soccer fans might suggest Pele's final competitive game for Brazil, where he lead Brazil to victory in the 1970 World Cup Final, scoring the opening goal, and making a spectacular no-look pass for the fourth and final goal in a rout of Italy. Both Italy and Brazil had won the World Cup twice, and FIFA had decided that the first country to win it three times would retire the trophy and keep it for posterity. Pele's 1970 Brazil team is often referred to as the team of the century and they won the original World Cup, the Jules Rimet Cup, forever that day. Many of the 115,000 in attendance at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City rushed the field and carried Pele off on their shoulders (with some trying to rip off his socks, shirt, and shorts as souvenirs). That is how you literally go out on top.
