Life long Lakers fan...can't stand the mother because he threw a tantrum when he got to the league, got rid of Shaq...AND likely tossed away 4-6 rings. Also while I admire his skill set, it's still a team sport and HATE iso-ball with a vengeance. I give the Buss family a big assist on this. Their loyalty is great but they're in charge of winning and should have dumped him 3 years ago.

I will say the newer, humbler Kobe is a breath of fresh air...but it's too late.

Let the rebuilding begin, right now.

Lakers fan here too. They wouldn't have won those 4-6 extra titles because Shaquille was lazy and ready to get fat and paid. The Lakers booted him because of that, not Kobe. Re the Buss family, everything has to be viewed in a pre/post Jerry paradigm because Jim buss is a freaking baffoon idiot of epic proportions...the last 3 years are on him.

Okay 4-6 is an exaggeration...but you simply don't dump an excellent big man if you're winning and coming off a three-peat because of a feud. Extremely short-sightedness on Kobe's part. You just don't, unless you have a replacement ready...and Divac wasn't it. Yeah Shaq was on the downhill but I think they could have won a couple more at least, and perhaps more if they could manage the egos (they could not) like how they got Wilt to play "second" on offense.

So the fat and lazy player gets a pass? And the one trying to get the fat and lazy one off his ass is the villain?

Anyone read the write-up on Kobe's "Mt Rushmore" of influencers? The convo with Bill Russell and how Bill would sometimes let Wilt score so as to not **** him off 'caus he knew he'd be on the wrong end of that every time was pretty cool to read.

Laker fan here. I think Kobe did cost the team 3-4 titles. Not excusing shaq's conditioning, but that had little to do with the Shaq/Kobe feud. The truth is Kobe refused to play through shaq, demanded his shots and points, and basically refused to defer to anyone on his team. He didn't have beefs with only shaq. He couldn't get along with Malone, Payton, Fox, and lots of others. He was a bad teammate. In a word, he was selfish.

The other thing that bears mentioning is that because Kobe was such a bad teammate, lots of guys didn't want to play with him. Dwight Howard is probably exhibit A, but the lakers couldn't get free agents for years because of Kobe.

Glad to see the page turned.

I respect Kobe's talent, discipline, dedication and toughness. However, as a person he is NOT someone I would want my children to emulate.

Please stop with the 3-4 more titles crap. It was not going to happen.

You're telling me to stop it on a sports forum? Jesus H Christ...tell Kimmy K to stop having a big butt and showing it.

The Lakers have 16 championship titles. They could have gotten two more out of Shaq. But they will get more.

What are you, a W's fan counting two?

Our pal BB's a serial 'Zona troll who routinely flames our humble little board whenever Donuts fucks up. Cracks me up that he hates Cal so much that he even flames Dubs/Lakers threads here.

The story goes that Kobe and Shaq were in the midst of their feud, the Lakers had reached a point of concluding that one of them had to go but they didn't know which one. Then one day Shaq talked **** to Jerry Buss at practice about getting paid. And with that their decision was made. THAT is what pushed the Lakers to go with Kobe, not anything Kobe did.

I was always a Shaq fan - still like him. They made the right choice.

I don't hate Cal. I just feel that it's my duty to pass on pretty basic basketball knowledge that this board seriously lacks. You should feel honored you're being graced with my presence.

Kobe as a basketball player to be respected and admired, but I'm sorry I still view him as a rapist who got away with it. Sickens me to see how people revere him as a person (not aimed at anyone here but the general public).

There are like 3 or 4 misconceptions on here #1 shaq had to go because kobe demanded it or would have gone to the clippers. Kobe also ended shaqs marriage by saying he paid his side women for silence. He also ran phil off but luckily was able to slurp him back in. Kobe didnt rape that woman in colorado. The bitch showed up with like 6 different guys dna inside of her and got her little check. Kobes legacy was saved by the gasol trade. Kobes a top 10 player ever but also the most selfish sociopath to ever step foot on a court.
