Interesting. Good for our strength of schedule no dobut. Wish we were playing Gonzaga at home this season with Rabb back. Sabonis is gone for them but they are always tough at home.

Cal and Gonzaga will start a home-and-home series next season in Spokane, source told @CBSSports. Return game in Berkeley in 17-18.

Nice. Now we need a couple of other opportunities for big wins early on. What preseason tourney are we a part of.

UVa and the 'Zags in the same season. Aren't the Bears in Maui in 2017? Hoops OOC schedule is definitely moving up.

Rothstein's tweet indicates that next years game is in Spokane...am I right or wrong....isn't that what you wished for 02?

Wasn't the Virginia series the past two seasons? Or am I starting to get my years mixed up?

Wisconsin @ Haas was in 2014 and @ UVa was in 2015. UVa return game @ Haas in 2016.

Cal plays at Spokane next season. Wish we were playing them at Haas. But we already have Virginia at home so I guess good to have some balance...

It is interesting, since a home and home is not always required to schedule them. They need this series more than we do.

Love it. This coming season is on the road? I think our team is stronger this coming season than the one after so I'm glad it's on the road. We can take them with Rabb and company!!

Smart scheduling move for both schools.

Me, too.

As a visiting fan, I'd much rather visit Spokane than Pullman.

Good time to get them. Depending on Karnowski's health, 2016/17 could be the most challenging coaching job of Few's career.

OOC still needs to be upgraded - 2016/2017 preseason schedule thus far committed, is average at best: no preseason tournament (unlikely to have a quality 4 team tournament), do open the new Sacramento Arena vs SDS (hopefully payback), several weak home preseason games other than Virginia and then Wyoming as the next best team scheduled. Coach is firm on not scheduling more than 2 quality OOC road games, thus the neutral site games are fall backs. Surprising that the team has not been able to schedule a tougher OOC schedule, as its clear the staff is going all in for a break out season (recruiting emphasis, senior laden team, Ivan's most likely last season). I do believe this season will produce a much better overall record and post season success for the main reason being, its now Ivan's team and He will be a much more central focus of the offense and the overall ball movement will improve.

Hadn't previously heard about SDSU in Sac. Given the 2017 NCAA Tournament sites, Sacramento (first two rounds) is a good scheduling move. A neutral OOC game in San Jose (Sweet Sixteen) would also make sense.

I'd kind of agree. They've gotten Arizona and UCLA to play them at the Kennel. No reason to think we're above that. I'd actually rather play there than at the Spokane Arena. As a player, you want to play in tough environments.

I also don't understand how "they need" this series more than Cal. Gonzaga almost always has a good RPI. They are usually a positive to any team's strength of schedule. Playing at their place is not a bad thing.

Gonzaga typically has to travel to boost their RPI. Not always, but no reason not to leverage that if you can, IMO. I'd rather see home & homes with power conference teams.

Where is this information coming from? Gonzaga has only played in the Spokane Arena 2 of the last 5 years since BYU joined the WCC (2011 & 2014). However, the Zags have played an annual game at the KeyArena in Seattle every year since 2004.

That would be so sweet of the Cal game were there. Another NBA arena to check off the list. Lol. Last 3 oppone nts in Seattle were Tennessee, Cal Poly and South Alabama...

Since BYU and Pacific entered the WCC it's been tougher to get "solid" opponents for the annual Key Arena game in Seattle. i.e. Georgetown and Iowa dropped out as they couldn't fit into a "narrower" window. Going back from the three listed above ... the opponents were Kansas State, Arizona, Illinois, Davidson and UConn.

As much as I'm looking forward to Cal in the Kennel .... "Seattle" would have been great as well.

Is it a done deal the Spokane game will be at the Kennel or is the Spokane Arena also a possibility? Date?

It's an on-campus home and home deal. There are no Spokane Arena games planned for GU for at least the next 2 years. Not sure of the date for Cal.

I never bought the notion that we'd be playing at the Spokane Arena with a return in Haas. Like Gonzaga would agree to that...
