with jabari bird graduating after this season & hopefully moving on to the nba if he can show scouts a full time bad azz motor & ira lee (doesn't really value education, he's gonna make a 100% basketball decision) a near lock to arizona (an arizona donor told me 3 weeks ago that the wildcat staff has told him that both lee & brandon williams are expected to commit at the upcoming red & blue game on the weekend of october 14th), the staff needs to recruit a potential starter for 2017 at the 3...jordan nwora is an elite shooter with the already developed body to bang defensively along with a high bb iq that's been coached up by his dad alex (the head basketball coach at erie community college) that wants to be a true student athlete (mom is a college professor), he would be an ideal cal fit

cal is in a very strong position to secure one of jordan's 5 official visits for the spring signing decision for the consensus top 25 player in the 2017 class

Ira Lee is a PF. Just because he's 6'7" doesn't make him a 3, that's not his game. Nwora is listed as a 4 by some services and a 3 by others. Seems like he's a shooter but not the athlete that some might want for a wing.

Right now the scholarship depth chart for 2017-18 seems to be;

1 - Moore / Coleman / Chauca
2 - Baker
3 - JHD
4 - M. Lee / Davis
5 - Rooks / KO

JHD seems like he could still be growing. He looked to be about as tall as Coach Martin in a picture I saw and CM is really 6'4" or so. Davis could probably play the 3, also, especially on D, though his skill level and shooting might need some improvement for him to be seriously considered for extended minutes there. I wouldn't mind seeing Roger redshirt for development purposes, but that's not likely. Probably should have redshirted as a freshman, but that's water under the bridge.

tsub, dontae coleman is a combo guard, on your 2017 depth chart above i would move him to the 2 as jemarl baker's back up...if my boy brandon chauca (nobody is gonna outwork him) can knock down the open 3 pointers, he will be a competent back up to charlie moore & earn minutes at the 1

interesting idea about roger moute a bidias blue shirting but agreed that's not gonna happen now, he will help the team this season as relentless chaser on d vs allonzo trier, tyler dorsey, etc...nobody on this team fights thru brutal screen packages better than roger, he's a very tough guy & that counts for a lot in coach martin's man on man d scheme

roman davis told me at the year end banquet that he's a 3 but his shooting development is still probably a year away from him impacting at the wing...nba scouts noted in pregame warm ups last season his athleticism, roman is a +1 athlete that can rebound & play d...in watching juhwan harris dyson practice with elite sharpshooter jemarl baker during their official visits to berkeley 2 weeks ago, he also needs to put up 500+ 3 pointers a day too...jhd is a freak athlete but doesn't have the shooting skills now to start at the 3

bottom line, the staff can honestly (they don't know any other way) tell jordan nwora, donnie tillman (very mentally tough strong student that is multiple) & abu kigab (will officially visit berkeley this weekend) that the starting 3 in 2017 is gonna be a wide open competition with jabari bird's graduation

congrats on trevin knell on his commitment this afternoon to coach martin & the staff to become a california golden bear, he's all in...sorry sadie:cheer

knell will sign in the november signing period & then defer enrollment until the summer/fall of 2019 as he pursues a mormon mission at a still undermined location somewhere on planet earth

but make no mistake about it, trevin is gonna continue to wake up with the roosters & get his 500+ practice shots a day, his passion for experiencing the world, academic achievement with a 4.0 gpa & playing basketball at the #1 ranked public (#3 overall) university in the world makes him a perfect cal fit

trevin, feel kinda sorry for opposing head coaches that are gonna have to scheme for guarding both you & jemarl baker in 2019 from the nba 3 point line, that's a seth curry & klay thompson kinda problem:headbang

Shocky1;842713732 said:

coach martin has offered late emerging elite shooter 6'4" 165 lbs trevin knell of of wood cross high school & the utah prospects

trevin blew up in his last 2 aau tournaments this summer knocking down an unreal 18-39 (46.2%) 3 pointers at the gauntlet series finale & then 18-37 (48.6%) at the gauntlet series championship after sharpshooting 45.2% of 3 pointers during his junior season at wood cross...knell has got a disciplined work ethic practicing at least 500 (upwards to a 1000) 3 pointers a day & would benefit tremendously from coach christopher's rigorous (but fun) s&c program, he's too skinny right now

trevin is a mormon & is gonna take a 2 year mission somewhere in the world (location to be determined) after high school & then enrolling in college in 2019 as a stronger & wiser well traveled/experienced young man...berkeley has got a significant lds community

knell is not a dumb azz, he's got a 4.0 gpa throughout high school and will take ap english & honors math as a senior, his goal is be academic all state in utah as a senior...he's likely gonna make a 50 year decision that sets him & his family up for life & not settle for an academically mediocre school like utah (which is also actively recruiting him, he will meet with their staff in 2 weeks) which is 30 minutes away

trevin is gonna trip unofficially to cal august 28th (theo john will be making an official visit at that time) & if that visit goes well will return for an official visit before his targeted decision date in october

yeah berkeley is gonna be midnight city if the true student athltete trevin knell commits as a 2019 enrolle to the #1 public (#3 overall) university in the world, his shooting stroke is pure

And why Cuonzo is also all in recruiting Jordan Nwora.

If Jordan joins Baker and Knell and casts his lot with Cal bank on the NCAA 3 point records being obliterated.

troy did coach self tell you this weekend that he's gonna start 5 point guards including you in 2017 for the jayhawks even tho every kansas recruiting publication lists you as a 3?

glad to hear you got a bs meter, that will serve you well in life...some guys are too naive/stubborn to realize that many d1 basketball coaches will say just about anything to get a guy to sign, those guys end up disillusioned when they actual get a glimpse of reality & they end up transferring back home to long beach state

has jaylen brown, tyrone wallace, coach martin or cal's monster class ever said anything that wasn't true?

many of the most creative artists thru the years have gravitated towards the magical cities of rome, paris, milan, toyko, london, sydney, barcelona, new york city & san francisco for inspiration...serious question, have you ever heard of a great painter who was inspired by eugene, tuscon, columbus, lawrence or tuscaloosa?

at the end of the day, troy, where do you want to live to make your dreams come true?...how are you gonna bridge today's dreams to tomorrow's reality?

Shocky1;842739493 said:

what up, troy?

that road trip to lawrence is quite expensive (and time consuming), how much would it cost your family for plane tixs, rental cars, hotels, etc. to visit you half way across the country on gamedays vs the relatively affordable 1 hour southwest flights from las vegas to oakland on gamedays?

did you notice that lawrence isn't exactly as diverse & cosmopolitan as the san francisco bay area?

coach self took a 2019 point guard commitment yesterday from 5'11" markese jacobs to join current 2017 point guard commit 6'4" marcus garrett a top 50 player in the nation...the jayhawks already got talented point guards in 6'2" sophomore devonte graham (3.7 apg & 11.3 ppg) & 5'11" junior frank mason iii (4.6 & 12.9 ppg) on the roster, are you ok playing the 3 for kansas for a coach who likes small 1s?

let's be real here, troy, the road (the journey to unlocking your mind & your full artistic creativity) to the #1 ranked public (#3 overall) university in the world starts on the pacific coast highway

let's do this

hoops, ira lee is a silent commit to arizona, he's not coming to berkeley, the donut boy of tuscon has told him he's gonna be the next stanley johnson...there's no need for academic ambition or a career after basketball when you're gonna get minted in the nba, that's a slam dunk

prediction, ira is gonna be recruited over by coach miller & then transfer (which will be his 5th school in the last 5 years) to long beach state after his sophomore year playing garbage time minutes behind marvin bagley...he's not gonna use basketball, basketball (sean miller) is gonna use him & then in 5 years from now he's gonna be handing out towels at the la fitness on speedway telling disinterested members he could've been a nba all star if he didn't get 1) recruited over 2) injured again or 3) couldn't improve his crooked azz shooting

and yet you're a silent commit to an academically mediocre school like arizona that literally won't open any lucrative doors for you in life after basketball is done with you?...does it even matter to you that it's harder to get a dog license in pima county than it is to get accepted (95%+ acceptance rate) & earn a semi worthless arizona degree?

trust me on this, ira, smart girls like valerie aren't interested in dumb azzs that don't got any academic ambition, they realize there's no future in that...it's gonna be your loss that you can't see that now

you seriously need to start october with new goals & new intentions...maybe it's time for you to grow up a little bit & think like a man with a 50 year (not 50 minutes) plan that's actually got a functioning bs meter for coach talk/promises...men take care of their business, they don't make decisions based upon coaches telling them exactly what they think they want to hear...when you say sean miller is a great guy & that you really get along great with him you have no idea how superficial your relationship is with him & how that fake relationship won't help you achieve your goals in life, he is not your friend

However, a funny thing happened over the course of the Golden Bears' season: Rabb grew into the better college basketball player.

Perhaps just as unexpected is that after averaging 12.5 points and 8.9 rebounds in his freshman campaign, Rabb opted to return to Berkeley for his sophomore season. yeah summer may be out of reach but it's a perfect sunny crisp fall morning as i grab a quick healthy breakfast at a deli by the atlantic ocean before i'm gonna play my favorite golf course in the world, the national golf links of america

it wasn't perfect weather when i completed my quest (and became the youngest) to play the world's top 100 courses on the par 5 island 18th green at the nine bridges golf club on jeju island in south korea...despite the 50 mph coastal winds i drained this undulating 25 footer with the club management (all attired in suits & ties) & the seoul press in attendance to finish the deal, that's how california golden bears relentlessly pursue & finish their goals in life

not too bad for a former caddie at san francisco golf club

a cal degree will open doors for you to go places & do the unimaginable but are you willing to do the work?...graduating from the #1 ranked public (#3 overall) university in the world is a ton of work, it's not for everyone, are you a dumb azz or do you got academic ambition?

2) friar's head: coore & crenshaw masterpiece with a perfect walkable routing that magically incorporates the property's sand dunes region

3) shinnecock hills: usga's us open site doesn't have any ocean views but does have the best 9th & 18th holes in golf with dramatic uphill par 4s jealously guarded by the stanford white iconic clubhouse

4) maidstone: venerable east hampton club recently faithfully restored by coore & crenshaw, emphasis upon fun vs difficulty

5: sebonack: modern design co authored by the odd couple: genius tom doak of the current minimalism movement & the untalented jack nicklaus of the outdated artificial housing development era...would've been better without jack's unnecessary emphasis upon over bunkering/championship golf

it's 12:48 pm & cal's basketball practice at haas pavilion has been over for 20+ minutes with coach martin leading the guys in a "together we attack" hands together huddle

at the south basket coach nic & graduate assistant coach nick kerr are having a fiercely contested steph curry vs klay thompson 3 point shooting contest from a couple feet behind the nba 3 point line, if you told me both of them guys are about 12 years i would believe you with all the friendly trash talking

at the north basket kameron rooks is working overtime with coach o'toole (whose kids are shooting at the side baskets with huge smiles on their faces) on his free throws...tim is standing next to kam on the free throw line & demonstrating without a ball a pre shot free throw routine to k(rooks), the dribble & then free throw with the follow thru form...this is a hands on coaching staff

kam shot 50+ free throws & made at least 70% of them with a much improved flow to his shot & a higher arc with a couple going in after a soft shooter's bounce off the rim/backboard...kam then starts knocking down 50% of 17 footers from the center of the key with a graceful motion, he is in the zone...they close out with kam working on his footwork on a couple of post interior moves...the extra practice closes out with kam dunking with ease something that wasn't so easy 2 seasons ago

the bears schematically were limited last season in tight games during the 5 minutes as they could not afford to have kam & king shooting free throws down the stretch, this required ivan to play the 5 in a small ball lineup to maximize free throw opportunities which put us at a disadvantage vs arizona's zeus & utah's poeltl...that will not be an issue now with kam's tremendous improvement in his shooting

as kam jogs to the locker room to get ready for the football game activities, coach o'toole runs over to his son & starts coaching him up too, the guy is a ball of energy

so then it's 1:35 pm near sproul plaza & the cal band is playing our favorite songs on a perfect berkeley fall afternoon while the dance & cheer teams are doing their thing...the team is walking up to memorial stadium & i excuse myself from osogato's absolutely tasty tailgate party to talk to a bunch of the guys

i meet marcus lee for the 1st time & i can tell by his big smile that's he's heard about that crazy azz shocky...that's ok, marcus, i'm not going anywhere

after being congratulated on his shooting performance, rooks told me that while recovering from his recent injury that all he could do was practice his shooting...kam is both gracious & articulate, he is truly a special young man & he seems more determined (when he missed a free throw he was visibly agitated) than at any other point in his cal career, this season is all about him recognizing his potential as the pac 12's best 5 & honoring his dad sean

this is cal basketball (and trust me, it's magical)#

thompson told the fam that dc is nasty azz humid in the summer & freezing azz cold in the winter but that it's really nice for 2 weeks in both the spring & the fall

troy brown jr starting his 5th & final official visit to georgetown today...let's be real here the hoyas & the california golden bears are the only 2 academically respected school among his 8 finalists although it should be mentioned that degrees from both arizona & oregon are probably better than geds earned while in prison

troy, as you travel to eugene for your official visit this weekend, consider the ugly truth re: the oregon basketball program

criminal dana altman does not develop players (there are no true student athletes in eugene) for the nba, during his 5 years in eugene he's won a lot of college basketball games but only put 1 current guy into the league, joseph young who is barely hanging on after averaging 3.8 ppg last season for the indiana pacers...during his 16 seasons at creighton he only put 2 current guys kyle korver & anothony tolliver into the nba

why is there a lack of nba development under altman?

***altman plays an effective high pressure switching/trapping zone defense that does not prepare players for the nba like cal's man on man defense which mirrors the professional game, there's no safety net in the bears defense

***altman's program also does not physically develop guys for the brute strength necessary in the nba, long skinny athletes with length can win college basketball games but they will be abused & exposed in the nba...current 5 chris boucher & 2 tyler dorsey are the latest examples, boucher is 6'10" & 194 lbs & tyler dorsey is 6'4" 171 lbs how come they aren't gaining more weight while in eugene?

***guys don't develop perimeter shooting skills in eugene, altman's offensive scheme favors close range shooting with relentless interior put backs rebounding (which is ira lee's only skillset at this time)...that will win a lot of college basketball games but the evolving nba positionless game favors guys with serious 3 point shooting skills, that's not happening with the ducks program...oregon shot an abysmal 34.3% on 3 pointers last year: dillon brooks 33.8% & tyler dorsey 40.6% do not got nba range, it's just not a point of emphasis in altman's offensive scheme

***the oregon s&c program does not build enough strength to protects its player, dylan ennis missed all of last season with a broken left foot...dillon brooks also has a left foot injury & will miss at least half of this season due to serious complications, if he declares for the nba draft after this season he will not be selected & it's expected he will return to eugene in 2017 with the hopes of proving to scouts that his body can withstand the pounding of the nba & that he's healthy enough to even try...neither ennis or brooks has a realistic future in the league, guys are damaged goods

troy, criminal dana altman will not mentor you in becoming a true student athlete with a wide range of diverse interests including your passion for artistic endeavors & he will not fully develop your nba potential talents either but he will tell you everything that he thinks you wanna hear

this is oregon basketball#

with jabari bird graduating after this season & hopefully moving on to the nba if he can show scouts a full time bad azz motor & ira lee (doesn't really value education, he's gonna make a 100% basketball decision) a near lock to arizona (an arizona donor told me 3 weeks ago that the wildcat staff has told him that both lee & brandon williams are expected to commit at the upcoming red & blue game on the weekend of october 14th), the staff needs to recruit a potential starter for 2017 at the 3...jordan nwora is an elite shooter with the already developed body to bang defensively along with a high bb iq that's been coached up by his dad alex (the head basketball coach at erie community college) that wants to be a true student athlete (mom amy is a college professor with a doctorate that chairs her school's occupational therapy department), he would be an ideal cal fit

cal is in a very strong position to secure one of jordan's 5 official visits for the spring signing decision for the consensus top 25 player in the 2017 class
