I thought that Cal was a done deal w/ Marcus Lee? I would never trust Lorenzo Romar not to steal this guy. Did you guys know that this was going down? I was awaiting his commitment. GO BEARS!

Come on, Schroeder.
Of course we know, there are many other posts about it.
And it's not "stealing" when it's still open bidding season.

Interesting that as a transfer that must sit out a season he would consider UW. Romar is on the hotseat in Seattle and really needs to make the tourney next season. The current system they play is a good fit IMO for Lee. But that system could be gone if Romar is shown the door. He would benefit more from what Cal has to offer in terms of teaching etc and of course the degree. But until he enrolls in Berkeley all other programs must be considered a threat to secure Lee IMO.

Marcus needs to get it right this second time around... he should be at Cal.

Yes, crazy buzz has swung from done deal to Cal to likely UW.

Maybe the personality fit was not there with CM and/or team and ML.
Like, gosh Bryan, I liked Cal as I knew I would, but not the guys...or maybe JM warned him - note we got JM's departure news on same day of ML visit. Not good.

The "done deal" talk didn't come from anyone covering Cal.

Regardless, pretty sure UW's his backup option but we'll see.

Good, the "fact" is I did not provide any kind of "update." That's what "crazy buzz" should indicate.

"Both visits were great," Bryan Lee, the player's brother, told SNY.tv. "No decision yet."

Interesting choices. UW, Oregon and Gonzaga certainly attract their share of transfers, but was this multi-school focus decided upon by Marcus at the outset as part of his transfer plan? ...or after he visited Cal?

Whoa!
One of the quotes in this story is tailor made for ConcordTom.. In fact, if I didn't know better, I'd say he put it there.

Of course, I agree with what's said.

Good interview.
The only truly new info to me here is that Marcus is apparently only a few credits shy of graduating after summer session and Goodman wonders why he didn't think it thru better by hitting the books harder so he could go as a grad transfer and play immediately next year, rather than sit out a year under the normal transfer rule.
Yet, I don't get that b/c that would have meant graduating in 3, which is already really hitting the books.

He summarizes a lot of what we've been saying for years - better to go (should have gone) where you get lots of touches so as to develop confidence.

But back to the books - as has been pointed out, sounds like Lee could be done with school at Cal (or wherever he's at next year) long before he suits up. He's got some career decisions to make - which good b/c he can leave with a double major or an advanced degree. He can work with the program of his choice. It's good to have options.

Hopefully it'll be Cal. Worrisome he hasn't yet pulled the trigger - indicative that something ain't right. Maybe Lee's prescience screws up incoming frosh recruits like Ira Lee, and CM is not sure - I certainly don't know where this is headed!

And then twist them to fit into your crazy-ass view of the world, yes.

If Lee really is that close to graduating it's doubtful he can be admitted to Cal as an undergrad because he likely would never be able to satisfy the senior residency requirement that's a prerequisite to earning a Cal degree.
https://ls.berkeley.edu/advising/degree-requirements

However, we don't know how accurate Calipari's claim actually is or how many of Lee's UK units will actually be accepted by Cal, or for what purpose. If UK is on quarters there's an automatic conversion ratio that will apply to adjust those units to semester equivalents. Even after that's done (or if both are semester units) Lee's UK units will need to be applied against Cal's degree requirements, including breadth. Often classes taken at one school that count towards a degree there end up getting dumped into the general elective category at Cal. So it's possible Lee may find he would be a lot farther from a Cal degree than he was at UK.

Long story short there are plenty of reasons outside Martin and Lee's control that could be delaying things.

Kentucky is on semesters. calendar

Would it be possible for Lee to graduate in a different major and not run into trouble for accumulating too many units? Otherwise I don't see how he could fill up 4 more undergrad semesters at Cal.

I don't think we know enough to even speculate about what Lee's realistic options are at Cal. I'd bet Martin and his staff are working on all the angles tho. If Mathews really is gone I'd also bet they'd like to find a way for Lee to play for Cal this season if that's at all possible.

That would be best for all but it would be difficult for Lee to graduate UK during the summer and simultaneously successfully apply to grad school at Cal. I'd guess the easiest route by far would be a an undergrad transfer. The residency requirement may not be an issue at all if he's placed in the right major etc...

Gee, probably insanely possible to take a crazy summer load, have a bunch of "tutors" help you pass all those classes, graduate from UK, then apply to Cal, and enroll immediately for Fall term and PLAY THIS YEAR! Insanely IMPROBABLE, he said.

What about become eligible for the Spring semester - Rabb and Lee team up. Now THAT is insane.

If that occurs then it means, in the end, that sadly Marcus just doesn't "get it" and is still listening to people who are telling him he is a sure thing for the NBA. But f' it. I am tired of the drama over 20 year olds.

UW doesn't make any sense for with Lee or Thornton. No guarantee that Romar will still be there when they become eligible. Both left programs which will be 2017 title favorites and consistently get players drafted.
