Wow. You posted this about two hours ago, and still no posts saying that ratings this early don't matter and they would prefer we don't get rated this early so the players don't get their heads in the clouds.

I think being rated at any point is a good thing. I like being part of the Top 25 score scroll. And it gets our name out there as a national player for recruiting purposes.

I think what we saw was good stuff. Is it too early to celebrate- yes, but it is nice to get a mention.

I'll celebrate the mention any time... guess it comes down to, is it better to have loved and lost loved than to never have loved at all? I'll take the former!

Seriously though, it does help anytime our name is there, both for recruiting and for current players - not as a motivator to work harder but more as an outside-the-program recognition and legitimization of the team's progress. Not to mention for the fan base... After the football season it's nice to be able to count any votes for the basketball team... gives me hope for being in a better mood after the Bears play.

Great news! Always good to be ranked, though I wonder if they realize which SDSU we beat.

With that attitude, it's best we shoot for the NIT. We wouldn't want too much NCAA Tournament pressure on the coaches and players and the team we play in the big dance is always trying to knock us off.

Always better to be ranked than be rank.

If that's a problem, the team won't be ranked very long. I don't think it's a problem.

Well, yes, that's our history. We get ranked, but don't stay ranked for long. Hopefully this team is good and mature enough to win under pressure.

You really think that our history of being ranked is a problem in that it causes our team to play relatively worse after being ranked? I don't buy into the "too much pressure" argument. Opposing teams psyched up to knock off ranked teams? Maybe a little bit.

College basketball at a 40 minute game is a far way from the seconds of soccer penalty shots where there is a lot of psychology at play.
