That was impressive.

UCI isn't great, but they are well coached and played disciplined smart ball. Moore was amazing. Coming back from way down showed some serious poise.

The thing I love about Moore was at no time did he seem stressed. Made pressure free throws, was aggressive but under control, ran the plays and didn't get too crazy. I see the Randle comparisons, but Randle was never this in control as a frosh.

This team could be very good if they all get some time on the court together.

I forgot what it was like to have a PG who can hit his FTs (or anyone for that matter!)
Remind me of the Justin Cobb days, and we beat some damn good teams with Justin, Solomon, Crabb and co.

That was an incredible performance for a true freshman.

No doubt. Still is, even with JB in the NBA.

That a great gritty win. I have been watching Cal basketball for over 60 years and that was the most amazing offensive performance by a freshman in the second half of a basketball game (27 points) that I have ever seen. Go Charlie Moore and Go Bears.

The ball moves SO MUCH BETTER already this year than it did last year when it would stick and we would settle. Thought coach had a great time out when we had tied it and then they pulled back ahead when we settled for 2 quick 3s without trying to probe inside. Reminded the guys about how he wanted them to attack that and then they got back at it (high ball screen with the "3" guard and then ball reversal)

I know Rooks isn't always pretty, and there are some frustrating plays at times, but his presence and ability to score and rebound down low is huge for this team, especially with Rabb out

He was a dominating presence down low tonight and make some key screens and box outs for some Moore layups. He just needs much much better hands, and a small dose of hops.

He had I think 15 points. Take that any day.

That was awesome. The 3 starters being out sure as hell made for an exciting game.

I know he'd be better with better hands and more hops, but that's probably not going to change dramatically at this point, and he's still generally productive and plays an important role on this team.

Strange stat line though for a PG - 38 points, 0 assists. I'll take it though.

We literally had no one else that can score tonight. Domingo 3-13. Rooks 15 pts but 7 of them on FTs. 5 TOs on Rooks and Kingsley because they can't catch passes down low. I think Moore is in line for 6-8 assist avg this season when all our guns come back, especially Rabb. Moore was under poise the whole night, only had 1 TO, and made some nice passes but our guys just can't finish.

how many more games would we have won last year if we had a ball handler who could hit a free throw?

Why would it be? Moore was more in control than Jaylen Brown. He's not a better NBA prospect or necessarily more of an impact player, but he's way better moving with the ball, a better shooter, and less prone to turnovers.

I think he was playing a lot of offguard when Singer was in there with him. I will take his 0 assists every night when he plays the two guard and scores like that. His ability to get to the line was amazing last night. I know it's a little early in the season but I was hoping Domingo would've made a bigger Leap by now.

Domingo did barely enough to secure the win. His two threes in the second half were critical. Not sure why Roger refused to take any shots. Especially after that wonderful display he put on in the game last week.Maybe the pressure got to him but he needs to shoot when open.

Good points - Domingo is a fine defender and good rebounder, but someone needs to tell him not to shoot - 23% on fgs is like last year. He is a horrible shooter -esp from outside.

I'm reminded of the motto of Rollie Massimino's championship team at Villanova--"find a way." If this team has that kind of fight and discipline, we can go far. We won a game short-handed that would have been a classic bad loss, which is really what you want to avoid early in the season. I'm jazzed. This may be a team that's greater than the sum of its parts.

I don't think the coaches are telling him not to shoot. This game was good for Domingo. It will give him experience in shooting the 3 during meaningful minutes and certainly will give him more confidence as the season progresses. Curry went 0-10 last week and followed that up by breaking the NBA record for 3s in a game. Hopefully Domingo forgets the misses and comes back strong the remainder of the season. Note: I was getting upset with him chucking up so many 3s but in the end, who else but Moore and maybe Singer should have been shooting 3s?

Box score shows Rooks and Kingsley with 3 TO's each, 6 total. However, first half box score showed 5 of those 6 TO's. Team had 8 in the first half, 10 for the game. I'll sure take 2 TO's for the TEAM in 25 minutes of play, only one of which came from our twin towers.

And the fact that 7 of Rooks 15 points were on FT's isn't a bad thing. I wish he had been 8 or 9 for 12 from the line instead of 7, but getting the ball down low and drawing fouls isn't a bad thing. Moore had 38 points, but 15 of them on FT's. That doesn't water down his 38 points. Drawing fouls is a good thing. Getting opponents in foul trouble is a good thing. I'll take those numbers from Rooks every game (especially if he avoids TO's like he did in the last 25 minutes). We won't likely get those numbers from Rooks if everyone is healthy, and I don't know the extent to which he replicates this in conference play, but for now, I'll be happy with it.

That was an incredible performance, period. No qualification required. And I almost turned it off at halftime! Glad I stuck it out.

Jaylen brown at no point during last season got under control. He had offensive fouls in almost every game sometimes multiple. Brown is a SPECIAL athlete but moore is a more polished ball player by a ton.

Moore passed to a wide open Stephen Domingo 10 times, which is why he had 0 assists.

Actually a lot of those offensive fouls - were blatant flops. Clearly opponent coaches were telling their players to flop in front of him. Pac refs were clueless.

this was a perfect example of the flaw in counting assists as the be-all and end-all of "team" basketball. Not only were there many excellent passes that let to misses, but most of Moore's or Singer's passes into the post led to fouls and free throws. You don't get an assist if the shooter makes free throws instead of a field goal, and UCI was bound and determined to not let us score inside. We shot 42 free throws! (and made 30) If those 30 makes were buckets, we'd have a ton of assists.

Note to Californication: this is what CM meant by "aggressive," and I don't think it looks selfish in any way.
