Has anyone done less with more talent than Arizona? All those 5 star recruits and their best player in the NBA is.....Stanley Johnson? Aaron Gordon? Derrick Williams?

Gotta be something cooking (hint: FBI) on that campus.
Plus college players having late phone calls from their LAWYERS

It's Gordon, who has a chance to be an All-Star with more development. As does Markannen. The bust-rate out of AZ is high, though. Williams was a major bust. What happened to Kaleb Tarczewski, Brandon Ashley, Josiah Turner, and Grant Jerrett? All 5 stars out of HS who haven't done jack. Ayton probably becomes a stud in the league, though. Not even Miller could ruin him.

The list is longer....Rondae Hollis Jefferson, nick Johnson, ray smith . You know Trier is not going to get drafted.

Ditto on Ayton

In terms of player development probably not. In terms of college performance, Romar was worse.

Ayton not drafted? Huh?

The point guard from 3 years ago has definately over achieved..with the 76ers...

Ray Smith doesn't belong on that list since he had a career-ending injury but I'd agree that Miller has a very mixed and shaky record of developing players.

RHJ is in the rotation for the Nets. Nick Johnson was not much of a player, can't blame that on the coach.

I think Ayton will go #2 overall. I would pick him first, but it appears scouts like Doncic better. I have not seen Doncic play, but Ayton could has generational talent. Trier is likely to go in the second round and will get his shot. I don't think he is coachable, which is not Miller's fault. Kobi Simmons is getting minutes on the tanking Grizzlies. I think Miller has done fine by his players.

I predict that Ayton his in his mid 20s and this will become apparent during the draft due diligence process.

Trier reminds me of a smaller, less talented and even more annoying version of nick young. So yeah, good luck with that nba career Allonzo

Just saw last night where the Michigan coach praised Montanas' defense. that would be coach DeCuire. sigh.

...or that he was a stockbroker in Freeport for the last 15 years but he stays in really good shape.

Pushing penny stocks from Freeport to working for Sean Miller sounds like a pretty natural progression actually

Did Alkins get the senior night send off, along with Trier and Ayton? So he's undoubtedly gone too. Can't say any of this bums me out.

Yes, he did. And postgame, Miller made clear that he and Trier weren't coming back.

Agreed that it's all really wonderful.

What is the bigger humiliation/disappointment?

A) Cal with Brown, Rabb and Wallace not getting past the first weekend and our coach out the door

or

B) the current AZ team not getting past the first weekend and their coach being kicked out the door

Arizona has 6 players returning for next season and no one signed for 2018. On the bright side, maybe Ira Lee could actually see minutes.

(B). I think when Ty and Jabari both got injured there was a plausible explanation. The game with Hawaii was close for most of the game. The "pundits" were talking right before the tournament that Sean Miller would finally get to his first Final Four this year. They got blown out by Buffalo in embarrassing fashion.

You mean A) Cal with Brown before he fouled out in 17 minutes, no Wallace and no Bird?

As a wise man once said, the 3 point shot defines the modern game. Thus the Arizona game was game, set, match.

Welcome back. Glad to see you here again.

If Miller ends up somewhere else next season, would he be able to poach one of the returning six you mentioned? He got Mark Lyons to transfer from Xavier, after he himself left as head coach of Xavier to take the Arizona job.
tsubamoto2001

Lyons was a grad transfer and eligible immediately, which won't be the case with anyone left for AZ. Plus, the remaining players likely feel they were shafted in playing time. It befuddled me that Alex Barcello and Ira Lee could not crack the rotation. Both are solid players that could have contributed a lot more.

I really can't imagine Arizona would make a change unless there was something serious lurking in the FBI investigation (obviously a distinct possibility). But I don't see them making a change based on performance or an early tourney exit. Zona will gladly take Miller as long as they feel that they're ok on the legal front. And if he is out of Zona, I think he's out of coaching for a while. I don't see anyone else picking him up if he's let loose by Zona.

And echoing the above, glad to see you back, tsubamoto.

Really? Well, what WILL bum you out is when AZ somehow reloads between now and Jan 2019 and sweeps us home and away again.

Sweeping us next season will not require "reloading." More like "showing up."

If you'd attended the Cal v AZ game in Haas this year, I doubt that you'd have kept that opinion on Ira Lee. I don't believe that Barcello took off his warm ups at all during the game.

True, but as I remember it, there was some talk that Miller might have spoken with Lyons inappropriately prior to Lyons graduating and becoming eligible. Nothing ever came of that, just like it is unclear if anything will come regarding Miller out of the current allegations. I also think I remember hearing that Mark Few may have talked with Jordan Mathews inappropriately, in similar scenario. Maybe both were rumors. I don't know.

As to talking with players not eligible for grad transfers. I'm not saying Miller would do this, but a shady coach could talk with a player who had not graduated in an effort to talk him into transferring and sitting out a year, in violation of the rules, couldn't he?
tsubamoto2001
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I doubt it. You can't judge a player by a game or even a couple of games. Lee would have started for Cal this past season. That's not saying much, but still...he was capable of having a role for AZ. Instead they went with a 2 center set-up, which hurt their defense and killed them against a Buffalo team that played 4-out.
