I would have taken him or Randy Bennett.tsubamoto2001 said:sheki said:

Funny, since he's got nearly a lifetime of experience coaching at a multiple levels and many different circumstances. He's not an a up-and-comer young guy. I vouched for Muss and wanted him. It was pure stupidity on Cal's part not to get him. He's not perfect, obviously (who is) and a lot here probably don't like the guy, but IDGAF. We'd probably have Jordan Brown committed already, too.
He was my choice from a basketball perspective. Not sure if other issues around him made him not possible.tsubamoto2001 said:sheki said:

Plus, there was something else like that against him.
I would have too....now neither even wants the job. Our program has fallen hard.KoreAmBear said:I would have taken him or Randy Bennett.tsubamoto2001 said:sheki said:

Pretty obvious to the national college basketball community that hoops isn't a huge priority at Cal these days. Cuonzo using us as a stepping stone to Missouri said a lot... and I don't blame him one bit.UCBerkGrad said:I would have too....now neither even wants the job. What sport is a huge priority at Cal these days? As far as I can tell, none.Big C said:

What evidence do you have that he created excitement for the program? Other than with about the 25-50 people who regularly participate on the BearInsider men's basketball message board, many of whom had a negative reaction to him?Big C said:Pretty obvious to the national college basketball community that hoops isn't a huge priority at Cal these days. Frankly, I was surprised when I saw the conference HC salaries (posted here somewhere recently). IIRC, the Pac 12 median was WELL over $2 million/yr. I'm sure we would be willing to pay that for proven talent, but I'm not sure we could even get our money's worth right now.
We need to show our commitment by getting that practice facility, then go out and pay for a coach. Our best scenario would be if Wyking Jones somehow works out.
Gotta say, too: I was sorry to see Shocky fall by the wayside. Warts and all, he was a pretty big donor and helped create excitement for the program. Cal Basketball needs all the $$$ and excitement it can get.

Mussleman is not a good fit at Cal. Good coach for sure. He was cursing on TV. I don't find it offensive, but others might. Especially here in the Bay Area where being people may in tune with sensitivity.

They do when Bay Area kids or minority kids are getting cussed out by their coaches. That gets no air play out here in anymore. Kids and parents are not having it.

Lol we had a coach literally shove a player and nothing happened. This is a concern you're making up in your head.

Evidence?!? This isn't a court of law. It's a Cal sports discussion board: I'm coming in from left field with an off-the-cuff opinion, dammit!Chapman_is_Gone said:What evidence do you have that he created excitement for the program? I guess you missed that Fox News segment. The one where Californians are offended by EVERYTHING

Except the Cal Administration. It could be the reason Brad Duggan was not offered the job. Cal coaches, from Nibs Price to the present day were squeaky clean, or the swearing was covered up and not made public (Newell), except for Lou C., and they allowed that to go public, so they could fire him for that and other reasons. There is no way Cal would hire a Bobby Knight, for example, in spite of all the recommendations Pete Newell might have given. How Campanelli slipped through the door a landed the job, we don't know, but I'm one who was glad he coached Cal and put some spark back into the program. Unfortunately, the spark became a fire that had to be put out.UCBerkGrad said:Gkhoury2325 said:

No one ****ing cares if a coach swears
What he said on TV is what you can hear on HBO every night. Now he and his team are on to the Sweet 16.UCBerkGrad said:Gkhoury2325 said:

Muss is a indeed a solid coach. Bennett and the Gaels get no respect from the NCAA. He needs to upgrade the schedule. Or he can move up to a power conference team (why not Cal?). As long as Gonzaga is atop their conference, the Gaels will on the outside looking in.KoreAmBear said:I would have taken him or Randy Bennett.tsubamoto2001 said:sheki said:

Does that explain why no one ever hired Duggan as a D-1 coach? Not sure how coaching long time at a JC necessarily translates to D-1.SFCityBear said:Except the Cal Administration. That's what I thought, but the Insiders insist that wasn't the case.philbert said:
