I have kept meaning to post on this. Over the season so far, there is a cool Warriors commercial where they have created a seemingly seamless video of a fast break, but it consists of spliced together excerpts of different warriors over the decades, so it looks like Kevin Durant is passing to Chris Mullin etc. One of the players shown is Cal's own Charles Johnson--a card carrying member and important contributor to the 1975 champion Dubs. I smile every time I see him. RIP Charles.

...and to think, Phil Chenier joined him in the Bears' backcourt.

Thank you for posting.

A few words about 3 "legends".

Chenier first met Johnson in a pickup game on the Cal campus while both were still in high school.

"I had heard all about him," Chenier said, "but I was surprised he was so small (6 feet). We were teammates in this game at the rec center, and I was guarding Jackie Ridgle, and after about the second or third game when Jackie was scoring a lot, C.J. didn't say anything but sort of pushed me off of Jackie and he and Jackie (who was 6-4) went at it. I could see how strong he was then

We used to call CJ pops because he looked like he was 50. Man he had serious hops. He was quite the long jumper in Redwood high school. Also a good baseball player. I remember seeing him one summer when he worked a day camp for little kids at Harmon. Saw him playing keep away from about 20 kids just dribbling around and through them. Amazing handles. One of my friends said that CJ went to study in Mexico after graduating from Cal. CJ was his own man and quite the individualist. sad he died at such a young age.
