When you're a young player your growth has as much to do with confidence as it does coaching. I really hope to build from this game. Losing a game when you score 80 points is nowhere near as damaging as the ones you score 50-60.

No more Pac-12 on Uverse - will have to look at other options since a lot of the games are on Pac-12 network - or head to a sports bar that carries the games

Just looking at stat line - Paris had 9 assists with no turnovers, he must have played very well

Looks like the shooting/offense came around - still gave up a lot of 3's (> 50%) - hopefully the D comes around too

The three point defense can definitely improve (obviously) but to their credit, the Aztecs were making the shots .... many were just too wide open. I kept waiting for them to cool off from out there but they didn't seem to ever slow down from long distance

That said, Cal never folded and kept running plays and rebounding and making some tough looking shots. Great game and deserved win

Had a conversation with Jay John at halftime. The problem with the 3-point defense is that the freshmen often get caught forgetting to rotate when there's an overload, so--as Jay put it--one forward winds up with no one to guard. We also talked about zone v. man, and he agreed that with young players, man is easier to play and teach, because there are subtleties to zone that aren't apparent. He said, though, that with Vanover in, zone is a must, because he doesn't yet have the strength to play man post defense, and he's foul out in 5 minutes.

Really nice win. Very happy for the players

But yeah, if this team is gojng to make strides towards next year, we have to do something about the defense.

Switch everything on defense. Our pnr defense is still a....work in progress (to put it nicely). We've got a whole team of wings, just switch everything (unless it's vanover)

Stop over helping. Especially if you're defending a guy who can shoot.

Sure, we may give up a lot of easy paint points by playing like this, but at least you take away teams shooting lights out from 3 every single game. At some point, if this team is gojng to grow, they have to take personal responsibility and be able to defend their man and prevent them from just waltzing into the paint.
