The Sand Diego State win was very encouraging. The difference was remarkable. I attended both the SDS and USF games this past week and saw better D, better ball movement, better communication, and frankly better energy.

The player rotation stood out
  • Against SDS Cal had nine players with 9 or more minutes.
  • Against USF Cal only had six players with more than 10 minutes each.
  • Harris-Dyson hurt his finger before the USF game and only played 2 minutes. JHD played 13 minutes against SDS. JHD brings defensive intensity and allows others to rest for the final push
  • The other big change was a Anticevich. Grant had 13 points in 26 minutes against SDS and did not play on Wednesday.

At this point in the season, we need to play deeper into the bench and work out the best rotations in non-conference games.

Agreed. The nine man rotation needs to be used consistently. Even though the Bears still had some struggles rebounding, the final total was 27 to 26. What appeared to be a lack of effort on the boards late in previous games might really be attributed to overall fatigue. Using 9 and slightly reducing minutes per player seems to be the solution.

Kelley getting in early foul foul trouble could be the best thing to happen to the Bears all season. Wouldn't that be something if it ends up saving WJ's job?

Well I'm not convinced Wyking will use Anticevich voluntarily yet. I hope he realizes he needs a glue guy like him to set up others. Kelly is great (loved behind the backboard reverse layup - how did he cover so much ground), but he's a frosh. Need a guy with an understanding of the game and do the little things to free up others and win. Then 9:0 A to TO ratio for Austin was super encouraging. He didn't do this against CS Monterey Bay either.

The defender had actually sealed him off. Kelly's antidote was to pick up his pivot foot. Ref missed it. I'll take it. It was a key bucket.
