It was obvious that he was disappointed that Cal Poly came up short. His final comment was "Cal escapes". If the Furd had been playing Cal Poly his emotion would have been going the other way.

Robinson lost me years ago (2006, to be precise) when he did an interview on KNBR and announced that Stanfurd was doing poorly in football because they had academic integrity and that the only reason Cal was succeeding was that Tedford was probably as corrupt as Bob Huggins.

Both of these things are true: Cal escaped. Ted Robinson was disappointed that Cal won.

To be fair, Ted Robinson was the Cal radio play-by-play announcer during the Bozeman years. He did pre-game and post-game interviews and interacted quite a bit with the coach. No doubt that he saw and heard things that influenced how he views Cal athletics.

That said, I can't stand him now.

He's kind of a private school archetype. I think he tries, but he does a really poor job of masking who/what he is. He's like a new world bleeding heart visiting a third world country for the first time - trying to be earnest, trying to be open-minded but ultimately coming off as arrogant and patronizing.

If you don't like him in his comfort zone, try watching his tennis telecasts. When he's stuck between John McEnroe and Mary Carillo, he piddles submissively like a 3 week old puppy. Funny and sad at the same time. More funny than sad if you dislike him for his Stanford/Notre Dame honking.

Robinson is so unprofessional in the way he roots for his beloved Stanfurd whenever announcing one of their games. I can't stand him.

I just wish he didn't announce Cal games, ever.

The contrast is also said about Joe Starkey (being pro Cal). However, most of the Furdies are also joined by a significant number of Bears (whoops). FWIW, one of my friends (former Furd lineman from the 70's) doesn't like Robinson either.

I would have no problem with Robinson rooting for Stanfurd when he's doing their radio broadcasts, just as I have no problem w/ Joe as OUR announcer. However, when you're working for TV, you're supposed to be neutral, although Robinson wouldn't understand the term if it bit him on the butt.

Exactly. Stanford and Cal have separate radio broadcasts when they play, so you can listen to your homer of choice. TV is completely different. Fans of both teams (and neutral observers) will be watching.

Liking and disliking is so subjective and personal. i once called KNBR to talk about one top[ic and we started to argue about the JFK assassination. The consensus at this late date is that Oswald acted alone because he was a communist , had the opportunity , and was an expert marksman. On the other hand, he was totally convinced that there were other shooters there and that Ruby killed Oswald in order to silence him about nefarious conspiracies involving the US Government. His theory was defensible, but his manner and certitude were off-putting. I don't like his sportscasting either. Too officious and anal-retentive.
