After discussions with Director Knowlton, Head Coach Wyking Jones made the following announcement:
"We have had many conversations throughout our program about how we can get better. While we have shown progress in many areas, we are far from satisfied and feel like we can be much better in the future.
I have confidence in this group of coaches to lead our student-athletes to victories on the field and make a positive impact on their lives off of it. We are in the process of building a program at Cal that everyone can be proud of and coaching continuity is important to build and sustain success. I believe we have the right group of people in place to make that happen and these adjustments will put them in even better positions to help our student-athletes achieve their goals.
Associate Head Coach Chris Walker, will now be responsible for bringing chalk to team meetings as he did while coaching at his alma mater, defending NCAA Champion Villanova and also will be responsible for jerseys, based on his outstanding work at Under Armor.
Assistant Coach Marty Wilson, a Pepperdine grad, will be in charge of pre-game prayers, which represents a major promotion, since we otherwise don't have prayer of winning another game. A lot will be riding on Marty's appeals to The Almighty.
Finally, David Grace, an Air Force graduate, will be assigned to caddying for Jim Knowlton, providing Director Knowlton with humorous insights into military service and otherwise protecting my job. David will be replaced by some guy named "Shocky" who will lead the team in yoga exercises thereby improving the team's overall karma.
We hope these changes will double the number of conference wins this year, and move the program in the right direction."
