Johnny Dawkins' UCF squad almost pulled off the upset, missed shot on the last possession, what a day. Why is the ex-Furd coach doing well at his new position? I don't imagine the talent level on his squad is anywhere close to Duke's.

Crazy ending. Thought that UCF tip-in at the end was money. Good question regarding Dawkins.

Because his center is 8 feet tall

Yeah. Maybe take a TO once your Guinness Book player fouls out and remind the other guys about the importance of boxing out on free throws

And, I know it's tough with kids trying make highlights, but that errant alley-oop with a four point lead was not a smart basketball play. And, perhaps, was a decider.

Eh, they had a 2-1 break. If you have a chance to basically close the game out if you convert a fairly easy alley-pop, you have to take your chances with that.

Because Aubrey Dawkins (related) scored 32 points.

It was Dawkins Jr who was weak on the block, claimed to get pushed under but I didn't see it.
Kid had a whale of a game.
Sad ending for him on that rebound plus the just missed tip at the other end.
Duke got so lucky.

Yeah, that guy created a lot of problems for Duke. Honestly it seems strange that UCF couldn't manage to do better than a 9 seed with that guy on the team.

Was at the game and still not sure my blood pressure has returned to normal. A guy like Tacko is a particularly bad matchup for Duke, a team that is lethal on 2s and one of the worst three point shooting teams in the country. Given his reach, he really pushes teams out far. That said, Duke wasn't bad from three tonight. The big difference maker in the game was Aubrey Dawkins going bananas. I can't say I've watched many UCF games but I gotta think if that was even close to a typical performance, they'd be a top 10 team.

Dude boxed out but was pushed with two hands in the back. It was an obvious but missed call.

Fuzzy - C'mon, brother. I watched that play live in the arena and have since seen it about 20 times on replay and don't think that was controversial. I think the game overall was not well officiated though. Tacko Fall should have fouled out earlier. Zion should have picked up his 4th earlier. And there were a few other misses on both sides but that's not a call I'd even put on the list.

TV is a better view than live. I was sitting next to a college ref who saw the same thing as me - two hands in the back, full extension of the arms, guy goes flying under the basket. Most of the replay angles don't show the push. The TBS highlights didn't show it. Maybe you just didn't see it.

I thought the same thing about boxing out, but it was obvious foul. TV announced it, and I thought it was interesting that the TV replay cropped it out. Still not sure that gets called every time in game situations like that.

But UCF did not play last minute well. Good use of a TO if they had any, but if they only had one maybe it would be wise to save it.

When UCF had two on one break they could have gone for the score on a simpler play. I called it showtime instead. Huge mistake because they had a four point lead and the ball at the time. The ball slammed hard on the rim and duke scored.

Reminds me of our loss to UNC in tournament. We had lead and numbers on a break. Instead of making the easy score, our PG goes showtime and turns it over.

Next mistake USF makes was their 8 footer allowing duke's gun to score. Everyone on the planet knew it would be an iso for Zion. Fall had four fouls so was trying not to foul, but they had a three point lead. I think he should have gone all out for the block. Worst case was two foul shots with 12 seconds left.

Zion made the big play at the end, but he also hit some big threes early

Yeah Jonny's son played an amazing game. Looked like best player on the court
