Congratulations to Roman Davis, and many good wishes for the years ahead. You worked hard on the court, earned your scholarship, and worked hard in the classroom. You are what Cal basketball is, or should be, all about.

He should play grad transfer ball at Santa Clara which is a pipeline to a Silicon Valley gig. Lots of SCU grads get hired there.

Way to go, Roman!
You came in as a late recruit from Windward as an excellent student and leave with a valuable degree and no college debt.
You worked it splendidly!

Or SJS, for that matter, but it's the Cal BA that would really get him hired.

Can someone clarify where he will be playing next year? In the 2018/19 Bal MBB roster he is listed as a junior so he has a year of eligibility left. Does he want to stay at Cal? Do the new coaching staff want him back? Has he gotten into a grad program at Cal? Can he stay if he wants to and the coaches want him to?

Go Bears!

My only source is BI, but I've never once heard that he is staying, though I suppose it has to be a remote possibility. I believe the only question is, will he be using his last year of eligibility as a grad transfer somewhere?

In the grand scheme of things: That Cal degree has his prospects lookin' bright!

DW gets the type of congrats from me that I would bestow on any young man or woman doing well in school. Nothing more.

Well, Cal screwed him over, and he freed up a scholarship for the program by going to CCSF, so it is good to see he is doing well. We can feel less guilty.

I'm not sure Cal screwed him over in the least. I'd LOVE it if my son (in ten years), could get preferred admission to Cal and get his freshman year entirely paid for. Cal was prepared to honor its 4-yr schollie commitment to him (okay, because they would've had to, but still... ).

Okay, sure the BEST way for Jones to have handled it (from DW's perspective) would've been to say, "You're welcome to stay on the team. I don't envision you being part of our rotational plans -- probably ever -- but maybe you'll surprise us." Unfortunately, it's the dog-eat-dog world of major college hoops.

If anything, DW screwed us over, by lagging on his departure, to the point where it might well have cost us recruits.

So, bottom line, I don't wish him ill, but I don't wish him any more good fortune than I would wish anybody else.
