Easy to say "we never offered" to save face after candidate withdraws.Alkiadt said:Fake news.GBear4Life said:
Muss chose Ark over Cal. Says a lot.
Muss was never offered the job at Cal.
And he was never going to get offered the job, so privately taking himself out of the running was a way to look like he turned it down...

If Cal wasn't going to offer Musselman, they are dumber than I thought, and fans who rejoice in this decision dumber than I thought
Uh, Muss prolly never wanted the job and was using Cal to do just that -- parlay a raise. At the first sniff Muss wouldn't be interested in an offer, Cal saved face by telling media they never offered him a contract. Cal is just like its fans, the loser guy who rejects women before they can reject them so he never has to say he was dumped or looked over.Alkiadt said:Who's rejoicing?GBear4Life said:Easy to say "we never offered" to save face after candidate withdraws.Alkiadt said:Fake news.GBear4Life said:

He never got offered the job, but he did successfully parlay media reports of his candidacy for the job into a better contract at Nevada.
Based on what? Him being fired (but also rehired) from two HC jobs in the NBA? Because he doesn't stay places long? Where has he "lost support"? Or is this just another attempt at rationalizing the absurd "not wanting" of a candidate with a resume that Cal normally would never have a shot at? The ambivalence of fans towards the school's interest or lack therof in Muss seems in part ignorance and in part saving face.Big C said:
Muss: Good coach, but seems to lose support after 2-3 years, everywhere he's been. Sort of a "poor man's Jim Harbaugh".
Do you find that reasonable?BearGreg said:
Musselman was approached by Mike Williams after Cuonzo left. He was never on Knowltons list. Perceived as not a good fit academically and risky given volatile nature and past DUIs.
Everything they considered about EM was reasonable. And that's why he was never considered the second time around.GBear4Life said:Do you find that reasonable?BearGreg said:

I mean, the "fit" stuff is so tired and vague to the point of being meaningless.
Past DUI? You mean the one 14 years ago where he blew a 0.11? I'll blow a 0.11 after two glasses of wine with dinner.
The only time I ever closely followed what he was doing was when he was HC for the Warriors. First year: Hey, this guy can coach pretty well!. Second year: We're sick of this guy. IIRC, he didn't last all the way through the second season. Nobody wanted him around anymore.GBear4Life said:Based on what? Him being fired (but also rehired) from two HC jobs in the NBA? Coaches and management disagreeing in pro sports is like the sun coming up. He wanted to play veterans over younger players, what a travesty. Warriors had a dysfunctional management team, and he was fired because Mullin wanted his own guy after Muss' second year. Even the icompetent St Jean loved him as a coach, but two egos don't mesh well together. Musselman, by both his and Arenas' admission, had a great relationship. Muss finished second to Greg Pop in COY in his first season at age 36, repeated similar success in year 2 despite being without Arenas.Big C said:

I have a feeling we'll be referencing fit a lot less after tonight's football game.GBear4Life said:

I really don't think so, unfortunately. Anybody who can win while operating within the rules of the university and NCAA is a good fit. Anybody who can't win ... is a bad fit anywhere.Pigskin Pete said:I have a feeling we'll be referencing fit a lot less after tonight's football game.GBear4Life said:
