SFCity, I agree with your comments/observations about Lars. If he really wants to improve, he can. Let's see what he does to make himself better over the next 11 months and beyond.

Regarding Bradley's rules violation, it pretty much had to be team rules, not NCAA, as he played in the game. Hopefully it was some small thing that he regrets... could be arriving a bit late for a practice, missing class, who knows? (We will never know.) If he is accepting of his role as a team leader, he will let the other players know that he accepts the brief benching and may it serve as a learning opportunity for everybody.

Speaking of lineup changes, I'd probably start Paris too at this point. Brown provides good on-ball defense but that's about it right now. I certainly understand the desire to invest in the young guys like Brown and Thiemann but we need to win some games this year.
The annoying thing about Austin, who made some nice plays defensively in this game? If he is defended at all, he cannot score. He needs wide open looks.

That is just patently absurd. Either you haven't watched all the games or your short-term memory is not nearly as good as your long-term memory.

Way over the line, IMO.

You've only been posting on BI for 3+ months.

You're quite good when sticking to the game and stats etc,

I didn't see the game (due to travel) but read the box score, the BI article and analysis and read the posts

While the outcome is disappointing, it's not entirely unexpected

USF is a good (not great) mid major playing at home

Cal got down big early and opponents hitting threes are deflating. Good to see they could make a big run before halftime

What did surprise me was Kelly not having a bigger impact. He is a skilled low post player who can shoot from mid range to the arc

I think fox isn't using him enough in our offense. I also think Kelly needs to be a stretch 4 when we get into conference as he is severely limited by long athletic bigs and the Pac12 has several of those

I think Fox is starting Brown until Paris proves he will play harder/better defense. But the team needs confidence and right now Paris is the better player. What he gives up to brown defensively, he makes up for with his strong rebounding

I'll be at the SC game and predict a win

Agree with you bearup, personal attacks not necessary. But in response to the original statement, by far it was Duke's defense that really smothered us.

See my post either above or in another thread. Like Duke USF overplayed the wings and dared our guys to drive where, when they did, the bun emo dude would contest the shot. Paris did that at least 3 times. So essentially Bradley was taken out of his game by this strategy. They never left their man to defend Lars - which they should not do....plus we were NOT GOOD in getting the rock into him.

And I agree - this SMACKS of Williams scheduling a game AWAY (TWO!!!) against Mid-Majors. I can live (sorta) with St. Mary's. Just over the hill, lots of alumni live in the Moroga/WC/Orinda areas....kind a fun "battle of Tunnel Road" vibe to it. But The DOns? Really?

I have seen Austin drive the defense and shoot the pull up 15 footer. He is a better scorer than Downtown Brown.

I've seen young Joel Brown, and I've seen the real Downtown Brown, Downtown Freddie Brown, captain of the Seatlle Supersonics 1979-80 NBA champions, and young Joel has quite a way to go before we call him "Downtown" for anything other than he can reach the basket (or backboard) from deep. Freddie was a great clutch shooter, along with playing point guard, and killed the Warriors more times than I can remember. He played most of his career before the three point shot was installed in 1979, so by then he was on the downside of his career, and he still led the NBA in three point shooting that first year, at 0.443. I'll be real happy if Joel can pick up his offensive point guard skills enough to play well at this level, and if he makes an occasional three, that would be a plus. If the Bears had the real Downtown Brown this year, we'd be a different team, maybe without a loss this season so far.

I dunno,Joel went 3-3 from three point range a few weeks ago. Usf Pom pom girls may have been a distraction, especially the tall blond. Their band, not so much. I did notice a much younger crowd than haas but they were getting beer more than watching the game. At $6 for a Coors light compared to $9 at Cal means you can drink 4 for the price of three at Cal. Me I had coke and ice cream dots.

Be grateful Cal turned down the rapp because it was ear splitting at Usf.

Glad I decided not to go, in that case, even though stubhub had tix for $9. Cal has a great deal this season 18 games for $100. Not sure if that is just for seniors.
